Role Overview

HCLTech is looking for an experienced Informix Database Administrator to support, maintain, and enhance business-critical database environments. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring database availability, performance, security, resilience, and operational stability across production and non-production landscapes. This role requires strong technical expertise in IBM Informix, Unix/Linux administration, scripting, incident resolution, change execution, and stakeholder collaboration in an enterprise IT operations environment.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on database professional with proven experience in managing Informix environments, supporting critical applications, resolving production incidents, implementing automation, and working collaboratively with application, infrastructure, and business teams. The candidate should demonstrate strong ownership, service mindset, communication discipline, and ability to work in a controlled ITIL-aligned support environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Database Administration: Install, configure, and upgrade IBM Informix database server software and related products.
• Performance & Tuning: Monitor system health, analyse logs, and optimize database performance by tuning queries, indexes, and configurations.
• Backup & Recovery: Develop and maintain database backup and restore policies, utilizing Informix utilities (e.g., ontape, onbar, onstat, dbexport).
• High Availability: Implement and manage disaster recovery strategies and high availability solutions such as HDR, RSS, and SDS.
• Security & Compliance: Manage database security, enforce Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), and maintain compliance with organizational data policies.
• Automation & Scripting: Automate routine operational tasks using shell scripting (UNIX/Linux), Python, or Ansible.
• Support & Collaboration: Provide 24x7 production support, resolve incidents, and provide technical guidance to application development teams.
• Patching and System Upgrades: Manage regular database patching, maintenance activities, and system upgrades to maintain a secure, compliant, and supportable environment.

Mandatory Skills

• 10+ years of hands-on experience as an Informix DBA in production and enterprise environments.
• Strong knowledge of IBM Informix database architecture, administration, configuration, monitoring, backup, recovery, and troubleshooting.
• Strong working knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems and system administration fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience in Unix shell scripting and automation of routine operational activities.
• Experience with high availability and disaster recovery configurations including HDR, RSS, and SDS.
• Working knowledge of database security, access management, and Role-Based Access Control.
• Experience supporting business-critical systems under SLA-driven incident, problem, change, and release management processes.
• Ability to provide production support in a 24x7 operating model, including planned maintenance and escalation support.

Preferred Skills

• Understanding of Oracle PL/SQL and database integration concepts.
• Experience with batch processing, scheduling tools, and production job monitoring.
• Working knowledge of Jira, Confluence, and defect tracking tools.
• Exposure to Insurance, Life & Pensions, or financial services application environments.
• Experience working with legacy application platforms, migration initiatives, and infrastructure modernization programs.
• Knowledge of automation tools such as Python or Ansible will be an added advantage.

Education and Certifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Relevant database administration, Unix/Linux, cloud, ITIL, or infrastructure operations certifications will be an added advantage.
• Equivalent hands-on experience in enterprise production support environments may be considered.

Working Model and Expectations

• Support production and non-production database environments as per project and client requirements.
• Participate in 24x7 support coverage, incident response, planned maintenance, and escalation handling as required.
• Follow HCLTech and client-defined governance, security, change, and operational processes.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, runbooks, known error records, and knowledge articles.
• Drive continuous improvement through automation, standardization, proactive monitoring, and recurring issue reduction.
