Education
Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an Industrial Engineer / Production Planning & Control (PPC) Engineer to join our Manufacturing Capacity Strategy & Optimisation projects.
This role sits at the critical intersection of our customers manufacturing operations and our in-house Digital Engineering team
You will act as the operational bridge: gathering planning requirements, defining project scoping, challenging standard throughput/WIP assumptions against real-world constraints, and coordinating with simulation teams to validate plant configurations prior to execution.
You will work closely with customer teams to understand how their factories operate, translate manufacturing processes and planning requirements into structured inputs for digital simulation, and ensure that the resulting digital models accurately represent real-world operations.
The ideal candidate combines a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production planning, material flow, and capacity management with the ability to analyse operational data, question assumptions, and communicate effectively with both customers and technical teams.
If you understand how factories work and enjoy turning complex operational challenges into data-driven solutions, this role offers an opportunity to contribute directly to the future of manufacturing in India & the world.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacturing Process Understanding & Customer Engagement
- Engage with customer stakeholders across production, industrial engineering, PPC, logistics, warehousing, and manufacturing engineering.
- Understand end-to-end factory operations, production processes, planning logic, resource allocation, and material flow.
- Conduct process study sessions and gather operational information, including cycle times, changeover times, production schedules, downtime, shift patterns, and resource constraints.
- Document the existing manufacturing process, operating rules, assumptions, constraints, and improvement opportunities.
- Clarify ambiguous or conflicting customer inputs and drive alignment on the agreed process before simulation development begins.
- Translate Manufacturing Requirements into Digital Simulation Inputs
- Convert customer requirements and shop-floor processes into structured inputs for the DES development team.
- Prepare process flow diagrams, operation sequences, routing logic, production schedules, and resource requirement documents.
- Define and validate simulation inputs such as product mix, demand patterns, takt time, cycle time, buffer capacities, machine availability, operator allocation, and material handling requirements.
- Translate production and logistics rules into clear functional requirements that developers can implement in simulation models.
- Act as the primary functional interface between customer stakeholders and in-house simulation developers, ensuring that manufacturing intent is correctly understood and implemented.
- Production Planning, Capacity & Material Flow Analysis
- Analyse Master Production Schedules (MPS), Material Requirement Plans (MRP), production demand, and manufacturing capacity.
- Understand production constraints, line balancing, bottlenecks, utilisation, throughput, work-in-progress (WIP), and delivery performance.
- Evaluate material supply strategies, inventory levels, supermarket concepts, Kanban, Just-in-Time (JIT), and replenishment logic.
- Study logistics operations, including warehouse-to-line material movement, material handling equipment, operator allocation, and internal transportation.
- Support the definition of realistic production and logistics scenarios for capacity assessment and operational optimisation.
- Simulation Validation & Customer Reviews
- Review simulation models to verify that process logic, operating rules, production constraints, and resource behaviour reflect actual factory operations.
- Validate model inputs and outputs against customer data, operational benchmarks, and agreed acceptance criteria.
- Analyse simulation results to identify bottlenecks, capacity gaps, resource conflicts, throughput losses, and material flow inefficiencies.
- Support scenario comparisons and translate simulation findings into practical manufacturing recommendations.
- Coordinate customer reviews, capture feedback, manage functional clarifications, and ensure that agreed changes are incorporated into the model.
- Help maintain alignment on process maturity, scope, assumptions, and change requests throughout the project lifecycle.
- Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Analyse manufacturing and operational data using Microsoft Excel and other relevant analytical tools.
- Develop structured reports, process documentation, data collection templates, and simulation input sheets.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, PDCA, Kanban, and other continuous improvement principles to identify improvement opportunities.
- Support data-driven recommendations for capacity improvement, inventory optimisation, reduced material handling, improved resource utilisation, and operational efficiency.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Production Planning & Control (PPC)
- Material Planning and Forecasting
- Master Production Scheduling (MPS) and Material Requirement Planning (MRP)
- Inventory and Supply Chain Management
- Just-in-Time (JIT) and Kanban
- Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and Toyota Production System (TPS)
- Logistics and Warehouse Coordination
- Supplier and Vendor Management
- ERP Systems and Microsoft Excel
- Problem-solving and analytical skills
Preferred Experience
- Experience in automotive or manufacturing industries.
- Experience in production scheduling, inventory planning & optimization, capacity planning and logistics cost reduction.
What Success Looks Like
- Customer manufacturing processes are understood, documented, and validated before simulation development.
- Developers receive complete, structured, and unambiguous functional requirements.
- Simulation models accurately reflect the agreed factory processes, constraints, and operating rules.
- Customer feedback and process changes are systematically evaluated and communicated to the development team.
- Simulation results are translated into meaningful manufacturing insights and actionable recommendations.
- Projects progress with fewer avoidable clarifications, rework cycles, and misunderstandings between customers and developers.
