Industrial Control Systems / OT Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Control Systems / OT Engineer with 7+ years of hands-on experience in industrial automation, PLC programming, SCADA/HMI development, system commissioning, and OT technologies. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Rockwell Automation, with Siemens knowledge being highly desirable. Experience in regulated biopharmaceutical R& D environments, GAMP 5 GxP compliance, and modern industrial software technologies will be an added advantage.

The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:

Industrial Control Systems Design:

• Design, develop, and maintain industrial control systems and OT solutions in accordance with GAMP 5 guidelines.
• Prepare comprehensive technical specifications, design documents, and validation support documentation to ensure GxP compliance in biopharmaceutical R& D environments.
• Translate business and process requirements into robust, scalable, and maintainable automation solutions.

PLC and SCADA/HMI Development:

• Develop and maintain advanced PLC applications using Structured Text/Structured Programming, FBD, and Ladder Logic.
• Design and implement SCADA/HMI applications to optimise operator interaction, process monitoring, and control.
• Work with PLC platforms such as Rockwell Studio 5000 Siemens TIA Portal, or CODESYS.
• Develop intuitive operator interfaces and rapid prototypes based on functional and user requirements.

Industrial Communication and Data Integration:

• Implement reliable and secure industrial communication and data exchange solutions.
• Work with protocols including: OPC DA/UA, MODBUS, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET.
• Ensure effective integration and interoperability between PLCs, SCADA/HMI systems, DCS, and other OT/IT systems.

Hardware Commissioning and Troubleshooting:

• Commission automation hardware, PLCs, I/O systems, instrumentation, and communication networks.
• Configure and validate PLC and I/O systems.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, controls, and communication issues.
• Support system integration, testing, commissioning, and production/R& D deployments.

Solution Demonstration and Documentation:

• Develop and demonstrate technical solutions and proof-of-concept implementations to stakeholders.
• Create clear and comprehensive technical documentation supporting system implementation, validation, and compliance.
• Prepare and maintain engineering and automation documentation throughout the system lifecycle.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

• Collaborate with Product Owners, Solution Architects, engineers, and global stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Participate in Agile and Nexus framework ceremonies and practices.
• Work effectively with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Instrumentation & Control, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related technical discipline.
• 7+ years of hands-on experience in Industrial Control Systems, automation, and OT technologies in production or R& D environments.
• Proven experience in PLC programming and SCADA/HMI development, preferably within R& D, laboratory automation, or regulated environments.
• Demonstrated experience in commissioning, integration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of physical automation systems.

Core Technical Skills:

• Expert proficiency in STL/FBD/Ladder and strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
• Advanced expertise in at least one industrial PLC platform: Rockwell Studio 5000 Siemens TIA Portal, CODESYS.
• Strong experience with SCADA/HMI platforms such as FactoryTalk View, Siemens WinCC, Ignition, iFIX.
• Hands-on experience with industrial communication protocols including OPC DA/UA, MODBUS, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET.
• Practical experience with DCS platforms such as DeltaV or Siemens PCS.
• Working knowledge of MS SQL Server and NET Framework.
• Ability to design intuitive HMIs and develop rapid prototypes.
• Strong understanding of electrical drawings, P& IDs, I/O lists, instrumentation diagrams, and control logic specifications.
• Ability to interpret and work with engineering documentation, electrical schematics, instrumentation diagrams, and system/control specifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation, with Siemens experience highly desirable.
• Strong experience with Siemens TIA Portal and Siemens WinCC.
• Practical experience implementing Module Type Package (MTP) standards.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and WebSocket solutions for industrial applications.
• Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and Git/GitHub.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for industrial automation systems.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and containerization/virtualization technologies.
• Experience with enterprise monitoring and logging platforms such as Prometheus.
• Familiarity with RabbitMQ, Java, or other modern backend technologies.
• Knowledge of ISA-88 ISA-95 and ISA-99 standards.
• Understanding of GAMP 5 FDA guidelines, GxP, and regulated software development lifecycle practices.
• Proven experience working in Agile and Nexus environments.
• Exposure to AI/ML solutions and the ability to incorporate AI/ML capabilities into SDLC workflows.
