About this role
Role Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE) developer/Integration Engineer with Azure cloud exposure to build and deliver enterprise-grade integration solutions within a complex, multi-vendor banking and financial services ecosystem. This is a hands-on development role requiring both:
- Backend Integration expertise (IBM ACE, MQ, Azure Event Hub, APIs)
- Working knowledge of deploying and supporting services on Azure Cloud The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in IBM ACE (formerly IBM Integration Bus / WebSphere Message Broker), with a strong experience working in a multi-vednor ecosystem, integrating core banking platforms, work systems (Appian), and external vendor solutions using API-first and event driven architecture patterns.
2. Key Responsibilities Core Development and Integration Develop IBM ACE message flows, subflows, and reusable components. Build and expose REST APIs (OpenAPI/Swagger) and SOAP services where required Implement data transformations (JSON, XML, flat files, DFDL) Integrate systems using IBM MQ and event platforms (Kafka/Azure Event Hubs) Implement error handling, retry patterns, and DLQ mechanisms
Cloud and Deployment Responsibilities Deploy and manage integration services on Azure cloud environments Work with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) or OpenShift on Azure for containerized ACE runtimes Package and deploy applications using Docker containers and Helm charts Configure and manage Azure services such as:
- Azure API Management (APIM) or integration with existing gateways (e.g., Kong)
- Azure Event Hubs (for streaming)
- Azure Key Vault (for secrets/certificates)
- Azure Monitor / Log Analytics (for observability)
- Support environment configuration and promotion across Dev/Test/Prod using CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI or equivalent).
System Integration and Delivery Integrate with core banking systems and cross vendor platforms Work with Appian teams to expose APIs and support workflow integrations Support end-to-end testing (SIT/UAT) and production readiness Participate in interface and integration design discussions
Support and Operations Troubleshoot production issues and optimize performance of integrations. Monitor message flows, queues, and APIs for reliability and throughput Maintain deployment artifacts, runbooks, and technical documentation
Engineering Practices Follow defined integration standards, coding practices, and API guidelines. Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows Ensure adherence to security and compliance standards
3. Required Skills Core Integration
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM ACE, IIB, or WMB
- Expertise in ESQL, message flows, subflows, shared libraries
Messaging
- Experience with IBM MQ (queues, pub/sub)
API Development
- Strong experience in REST API development (OpenAPI/Swagger)
- Working knowledge of SOAP services (WSDL/XSD)
Azure Cloud
- Hands-on experience deploying applications on Microsoft Azure
- Familiarity with AKS / Kubernetes-based deployments
- Experience using Azure services (any of the below):
- Azure API Management (APIM)
- Azure Event Hubs
- Azure Key Vault
- Azure Monitor / Log Analytics
Data & Transformation
- Strong understanding of JSON, XML and data mapping in ACE
Version Control & CI/CD
- Working knowledge of Git-based version control systems (GitLab preferred)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines for build and deployment (GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar)
- Understanding of branching strategies, merge requests, and code review processes
4. Good to Have (Preferred Skills)
- Experience with Kafka / event streaming platforms
- Exposure to DFDL and legacy format integrations
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, CP4I
- Experience integrating with Appian or BPM platforms
- Banking / financial services integration experience
- Exposure to API gateways (Kong, Apigee, IBM API Connect)
5. Security & Integration Awareness Working knowledge of: OAuth 2.0, JWT, TLS/SSL Secure integration patterns and certificate handling Enterprise identity providers (Azure AD, Okta, etc.)

7. Educational and Certifications
- Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- Certifications (preferred):
- IBM ACE / Integration certifications
- Azure certifications (AZ-104, AZ-204, or equivalent)
