    About this role

    Highway Engineer

About us: Balfour Beatty Infrastructure India Pvt Ltd. is part of Balfour Beatty; a leading global infrastructure group headquartered in the UK. Our India team works closely with international projects, contributing to the delivery of complex, high-impact infrastructure solutions. We offer a collaborative, structured environment with opportunities to learn, grow, and work on meaningful global projects.

    About the role:

The Highway Engineer is responsible for designing and delivering safe, efficient road and highway infrastructure. The role ensures compliance with UK standards such as DMRB and supports technical design development. It involves coordination with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders, including local councils, to achieve buildable and high‑quality solutions.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Develop detailed highway designs—including signalised and unsignalised junctions, roundabouts, and grade‑separated interchanges—in accordance with UK standards such as DMRB, Manual for Streets, and local authority guidance.
    • Set up, manage, and streamline the highway design process using OpenRoads / MX Roads / Civil 3D, ensuring efficient modelling, accuracy, and quality control.
    • Produce key geometric design outputs including plans, profiles, cross‑sections, horizontal/vertical alignments, and prepare earthwork quantity calculations.
    • Prepare technical reports, design notes, and documentation required for planning, tender, and construction stages, ensuring clarity and compliance with client and statutory requirements.
    • Lead and coordinate with CAD technicians to deliver high‑quality drawings, models, and design packages.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—structures, drainage, traffic, environmental, and planning—to deliver coordinated, buildable design solutions.
    • Engage with local councils, National Highways, contractors, and JV partners to support design reviews, approvals, and technical discussions.

    Skills Required

    • 5–10 years experience in highway design, preferably working on UK-based projects or with UK clients.
    • Strong understanding of DMRB, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, and other UK highway and planning standards.
    • Proficiency in Civil 3D, Open Roads, MX Roads, and swept‑path analysis tools (e.g., Auto Track, Vehicle Tracking).
    • Solid knowledge of geometric design principles, junction design, earthworks, pavement design fundamentals, and highway drainage interfaces.
    • Strong report-writing, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to present design solutions clearly.
    • Experience coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders, including local authorities and project management consultants.
    • Ability to manage design packages independently while ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely delivery.

    Desired Candidate Profile:

    • Holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's preferred) with 5–10 years of progressive experience in highway design.
    • Civil 3D skill mandatory
    • Able to lead and oversee design packages, guide junior engineers, and ensure high‑quality technical delivery.
    • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with experience working with UK local councils, National Highways, and clients.
    • Proactive, solutions‑focused professional with strong judgement, leadership capabilities, and a collaborative mindset.

    Benefits, Opportunities & Career Impact

    • Work on high-impact, global infrastructure projects that challenge and grow your skills.
    • Collaborate with experienced professionals in a supportive, innovation-driven environment.
    • Enjoy stable career progression with learning, development, and industry-standard perks.
    • Thrive in a culture that values ownership, excellence, and collaboration
