Job description Company: Shipping Technology Startup Location: Jakarta, Indonesia (Relocation required) Reporting to: Chief Operating Officer (COO) About the Role Our client is a fast-growing shipping technology startup looking for a highly capable, hands-on Head of Engineering to lead the company's technical roadmap, software architecture, engineering delivery, and team development. This is a true Player-Coach role, requiring both strong technical leadership and hands-on software development. You will spend a significant portion of your time writing high-quality code, managing cloud infrastructure, mentoring engineers, and driving Agile delivery, while working closely with the founders to translate business goals into scalable technology solutions. A structured multi-month handover will be provided by the current CTO to ensure a smooth leadership transition. Relocation Requirement: This position is based in Jakarta, Indonesia, and the successful candidate is expected to relocate to Indonesia.Expected Start Date: ASAP. The client is targeting an onboarding date within July to allow sufficient knowledge transfer and handover with the current CTO.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership & Hands-on Development (Approximately 60%)
- Take full ownership of the existing product codebase, driving feature delivery and technical debt reduction.
- Write, review, and deploy clean, scalable, and maintainable applications using C# and .NET Core / ASP.NET.
- Architect, manage, and optimize cloud infrastructure within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.
- Ensure system scalability, high availability, security, and database reliability using Microsoft SQL Server and Azure services.
- Design and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices to support frontend applications and third-party integrations. Team Management & Delivery (Approximately 40%)
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team.
- Drive Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Manage CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes using Azure DevOps, and release planning.
- Act as the primary technical bridge between engineering and executive leadership, communicating timelines, technical risks, and strategic decisions.
- Manage external technology vendors, software licensing, and cloud infrastructure costs. Required Technical Stack & ExperienceExperience
- Minimum 7 years of software engineering experience.
- At least 2 years in a Senior Engineer, Technical Lead, Engineering Lead, Software Architect, or similar leadership position. Microsoft Technology Stack Strong hands-on experience with:
- C#
- .NET Core
- ASP.NET Cloud Infrastructure Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including:
- Azure App Services
- Azure Functions
- Azure SQL
- Azure Blob Storage
- Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) Database Strong experience with:
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Database schema design
- Query optimization
- Entity Framework DevOps Experience with:
- Azure DevOps
- CI/CD pipelines
- Automated testing
- GitHub Actions
- Version control Frontend Solid understanding of at least one modern frontend framework:
- React
- Angular
