About a minute. You'll make an account on the way through.
About this role
RMC is creating a single point of accountability for all EPC execution both electrical and solar reporting directly to the COO. This role currently sits vacant following a recent departure, and in the interim, client-facing follow-ups (billing certification chase-ups, BOQ approvals, and project closures) have had no single owner. The Head EPC will close that gap permanently: owning execution, billing readiness, and client relationships end-to-end across the full project portfolio, with every Project Manager reporting into this role.
Required Qualifications & Experience- BE./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (or closely related discipline); PMP or equivalent project management certification is a plus.
- Min 15 years of total experience in EPC execution, with demonstrated experience across both electrical infrastructure (substations, HT/LT lines, underground cabling) and solar EPC (ground-mounted or rooftop) candidates with deep expertise in only one domain should show clear ability to ramp up on the other.
- At least 5 years in a role with full P&L or delivery accountability for a multi-project portfolio, with multiple Project Managers reporting in.
- Direct experience working with government utility clients (DISCOMs, state transmission/distribution companies) and a working understanding of tender conditions, billing certification processes, and government payment cycles.
- Proven track record of taking on an unstructured or underperforming project environment and building it into a disciplined, standard-work-driven operation this role inherits exactly that kind of environment.
Execution & Delivery
- Own end-to-end execution of all active EPC projects underground cabling/substations (RDSS and similar government schemes) and solar EPC (ground-mounted, rooftop) from contract handover through commissioning and close-out.
- Identify and personally drive resolution of the constraint holding back each projects next billing milestone approvals, drawing clearances, material lead times, or site access
- Establish standard work across all Project Managers: a documented, consistent method for site execution, progress reporting, and escalation, so project outcomes stop depending on which PM is running the job.
- Build and maintain a Critical Path schedule (MS Project or equivalent) for every project above 2 crore in value, with monthly review against plan.
- Conduct regular site visits (gemba) across all project locations.
Commercial, Billing & Working Capital
- Own billing readiness for every project: ensure joint measurements, completion certificates, and supporting documentation are in place ahead of each milestone, not chased after the fact.
- Take direct ownership of BOQ-freezing approvals and other client-side approval bottlenecks this is explicitly the gap in ongoing project and the single largest lever on near-term cash collection.
- Work with the CFOs team to keep SAP billing, procurement, and stock data reconciled against site reality SAP and physical/verbal figures must match, with discrepancies investigated and resolved within the same review cycle in which they are found.
- Track and minimize unbilled WIP and working capital deployed per project; flag any project where cash collected is falling behind work completed.
- Support resolution of liquidated damages (LD), retention, and deduction disputes with full visibility into amounts, status, and ageing
Team Leadership
- Direct line management of all Project Managers (electrical and solar) set targets, review performance, and develop their capability to solve problems rather than simply escalate them.
- Build a bench: identify and develop future PMs and Site Engineers from within the current team.
- Run structured project reviews (cadence to be established) covering schedule, billing, procurement, and risk for every active project.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the senior client-facing point of contact for all EPC projects DISCOMs, RVPNL, solar developers, and JV partners rebuilding the relationship continuity lost since the BD-EPC role became vacant.
- Represent RMC in client review meetings, dispute discussions, and contract variation negotiations, calibrating tone and approach to the specific stakeholder relationship.
- Coordinate with JV partners on jointly executed projects (e.g., transmission projects executed with technical partners), ensuring RMCs scope and billing interests are protected.
Systems & Process
- Drive consistent use of SAP S/4HANA (Project System module) and MS Project across the project portfolio today, usage is inconsistent and several projects lack a formal schedule altogether.
- Partner with the CFOs team to build and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts at the project level.
- Own the project risk register for the full portfolio built at bid stage, reviewed monthly, with named owners and mitigation actions, not just a list of problems.
Skills, Tools & Working Style
- Hands-on, working proficiency in Microsoft Project able to build and maintain WBS, critical path, and milestone tracking personally, not only through a scheduler. Strongly preferred.
- Practical experience working within SAP (Project System / PS module, or broader S/4HANA environment) comfortable using SAP as a live operating tool, not just receiving reports from it. Strongly preferred.
- Strong commercial and numerical fluency able to read a billing statement, a procurement ledger, and a stock report and immediately spot what doesnt reconcile.
- A genuine go-getter: comfortable building processes from scratch where none exist, and personally driving issues to closure rather than escalating and waiting.
- Open to extensive and frequent travel across project sites, client offices, and vendor locations, often at short notice.
- High personal ownership and follow-through this role is being created specifically to close a gap where client-facing items were not being chased by anyone
