Group Head Detail & Proposal Engineering

Qualification: B.E / B. Tech Mechanical or Chemical / MTech

(Thermal/Mechanical)

Experience: 15 + years

Key Responsibility:

1. Team Leadership & Capability Building

Lead and manage the team across proposal and detail engineering functions (Proposal Engineers, Detail Engineers, Draughtsmen, and Lead Engineers).

Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Define roles, assign responsibilities, and mentor team members to build domain expertise and leadership pipeline.

2. Strategic Planning and Execution

Align team efforts with business objectives, proposals pipeline, and project delivery commitments.

Plan resources and project allocation based on workload forecasting and proposal/project requirements.

Review and optimize engineering processes to reduce design cycle time and improve throughput.

3. Technical Oversight and Governance

Provide technical direction and guidance in thermal & mechanical design, equipment sizing, component selection, and validation.

Approve key design deliverables such as P&IDs, PFDs, GADs, MTOs, and offer documents.

Ensure adherence to engineering codes, standards (like ASME), and industry best practices.

4. Cross-functional Collaboration

Liaise with Proposal, Sales, SCM, Project Management, and Manufacturing teams for seamless coordination across pre-order and post-order phases.

Support proposal reviews, customer discussions, technical clarifications, and order finalization.

Ensure timely coordination for vendor inputs, bid evaluations, and drawing submissions.

5. Quality, Cost & Delivery Governance

Review and validate cost estimation, supplier offers, and design optimization for competitiveness.

Monitor engineering output quality, schedule adherence, and risk mitigation.

Do quality checks and ensure compliance with defined processes and documentation standards.

6. Tools, Standardization & Digitalization

Drive standardization of design templates, calculation tools, and documentation formats across the department.

Identify and implement tools for automation, 3D drafting, and design reuse to enhance productivity.

Collaborate with digital engineering teams for platform integration and digital transformation initiatives.

7. Performance Monitoring & Reporting

Track KPIs for proposal win rates, drawing release timelines, engineering productivity, and design rework.

Provide regular updates to senior management with insights on department performance and improvement initiatives.
