GM Shipping Agency Business - Mumbai

Role & responsibilities

To provide overall leadership to the Agency Division, driving business growth, profitability, operational excellence and customer / principal satisfaction across vessel agency, bulk, breakbulk and project cargo activities while ensuring strong governance, compliance and team performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and execute the overall business strategy and growth plan for the Agency Division.
• Drive revenue, profitability and market share across agency services and cargo segments.
• Identify and develop new principals, ship owners, charterers, customers and business opportunities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key principals, customers, port authorities, terminals and industry stakeholders.
• Oversee end-to-end agency operations, ensuring efficient vessel turnaround and high service standards.
• Provide leadership for Bulk, Breakbulk, Project Cargo and other agency businesses.
• Oversee commercial activities including business development, tenders, quotations, pricing and contract negotiations.
• Review and monitor business pipeline, revenue, contribution, costs and profitability.
• Ensure effective coordination between Commercial, Operations, Stevedoring, Documentation, Finance and other support functions.
• Establish and monitor operational and commercial KPIs across locations and business verticals.
• Drive process standardization, technology adoption, automation and continuous improvement across the Agency Division.
• Ensure effective management of vendors, stevedores, port service providers and other operational partners.
• Ensure adherence to company policies, statutory requirements, port regulations, safety standards and principal instructions.
• Identify and manage operational, commercial, financial and compliance risks.
• Review customer / principal feedback and drive corrective actions to strengthen service quality and retention.
• Prepare and present business performance, financial and operational MIS to senior management.
• Lead, mentor and develop the Agency leadership team and build a high-performing organization.
• Support strategic expansion into new ports, trades, cargo segments and agency services.

Represent the organization in key customer meetings, industry forums and maritime associations.

Preferred candidate profile

Graduate in any discipline; MBA / PGDM in Marketing, Logistics, Shipping or Business Management preferred.

• Strong experience in agency operations and commercial / business development.
• Proven experience managing large teams, multiple locations and P&L / business targets.
• Strong network with ship owners, charterers, principals, customers and port stakeholders preferred.
