About this role
Are you passionate about using drones, satellites and AI to measure nature more accuratelyThryve.Earth is seeking a GIS Remote Sensing Specialist in Bangalore to drive GIS and remote-sensing RD for digital MRV across our NbS projects.In this role you will combine drone and satellite data with computer vision to measure trees, canopy and carbon more accurately and cost-effectively, validate outputs with field data, and turn research into repeatable production workflows.
Responsibilities
- dMRV GIS RD: Drive GIS and remote-sensing RD for digital MRV across NbS projects. Develop approaches for measuring trees, canopy and carbon using geospatial data, and combine drone and satellite datasets for project monitoring.
- Computer Vision Remote Sensing: Develop and apply computer-vision methods for tree/crown detection, counting and segmentation. Generate canopy and related spatial metrics, and calibrate remote-sensing outputs against field data.
- Drone Field Data: Conduct/support drone surveys, flight planning and photogrammetry. Work with field plots, project boundaries and ground-truth data, and validate and improve remote-sensing methods using field observations.
- Workflow Development: Build repeatable geospatial workflows using Python, automate analysis and maintain version-controlled workflows. Work with QGIS, Google Earth Engine and SQL/Postgres/PostGIS, and translate research questions into documented, reproducible methods.
Qualifications and Skills
- Genuine passion for nature and for applying technology to nature-based solutions.
- 3+ years of GIS/remote sensing experience.
- Degree in GIS, Remote Sensing or a related field.
- Experience with carbon markets, NbS, ARR, agroforestry, REDD+ or MRV.
- Experience in GIS/remote-sensing RD for dMRV.
- Experience with drone surveys, flight planning and photogrammetry, and with combining drone and satellite data.
- Experience with computer vision for tree/crown detection, counting and segmentation.
- Strong QGIS and Google Earth Engine skills.
- Strong Python/geospatial automation skills and version control.
