Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic General Manager to lead our Indirect Tax function. This strategic role involves providing expert guidance and oversight on all indirect tax matters, including GST, Customs, Excise, Sales Tax, VAT, and the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP). The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Indian tax laws, demonstrate exceptional leadership capabilities, and have a proven track record of driving business growth through tax optimization and risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategy & Compliance:

- Develop and implement robust indirect tax strategies to minimize tax liabilities while ensuring 100% compliance with Indian tax laws and regulations.

2. Litigation Management:

- Lead and manage high-stakes litigation (exposure to 100+ Crore matters), ensuring favorable outcomes through strategic data submissions during departmental audits, assessments, and investigations.

3. Team Leadership:

- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of tax professionals to ensure timely and accurate compliance with GST, Customs, Excise, Sales Tax, VAT, and FTP regulations.

4. Business Advisory:

- Provide strategic guidance to business stakeholders regarding the impact of GST and other indirect taxes on business operations, new projects, and proposed transactions.

5. Legacy Tax Management:

- Manage and resolve matters related to the erstwhile Excise, Sales Tax, and VAT regimes.

6. Cross-functional Collaboration:

- Partner with business teams to identify and implement tax-efficient structures for various business transactions.

7. Risk Management:

- Identify potential indirect tax risks and develop effective contingency plans to mitigate them.

8. Regulatory Monitoring:

- Continuously monitor legislative developments, assess their impact on the business, and report findings to senior management.

9. Representation:

- Represent the company during tax audits, departmental investigations, and before judicial forums.

Requirements & Desired Skills:

- Qualification: Chartered Accountant (CA) and/or LLB.

- Attempt Criteria: CA First Attempt Only.

- Experience: 15+ years of comprehensive experience in Indirect Taxation.

- Core Expertise: Strong working knowledge of GST, Customs, Excise, Sales Tax, VAT, and Foreign Trade Policy (FTP).

- Litigation Exposure: Proven experience managing large-scale litigations (100+ Crore).

- Industry Focus: India experience is mandatory.

- Technical Skills: Proficiency in ERP systems (preferably SAP) and other tax management software.

- Leadership: Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a high-performing team.

- Soft Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities; exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
