Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial General Manager Design to lead our design function in Mumbai. The role will be responsible for driving design excellence, client pitches, team leadership, commercial outcomes, and operational efficiency across high-value commercial interior projects ranging from 2 Cr to 50 Cr+.

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in commercial/hospitality interiors, exceptional presentation skills, and the ability to combine creative design thinking with business and P&L understanding.

Key Responsibilities

Design Leadership & Innovation

• Lead the design strategy for large-scale commercial and hospitality projects.
• Translate client business objectives into functional, innovative, and visually compelling design solutions.
• Develop high-impact design presentations, 3D visualizations, and VR-enabled walkthroughs for client pitches.
• Drive design narratives that strengthen client engagement and improve conversion of high-value mandates.
• Ensure design quality, brand alignment, functionality, and commercial viability across projects.

Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of architects and interior designers.
• Build a culture of creativity, speed, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Allocate resources effectively and establish design review mechanisms and quality benchmarks.
• Conduct regular feedback, training, and capability-building initiatives for the design team.

Business & Client Collaboration

• Partner closely with Business Development and Sales teams on high-value pitches and proposals.
• Lead design presentations and client meetings alongside business leaders.
• Understand client requirements and develop design solutions that demonstrate clear business value and ROI.
• Build strong relationships with key clients, stakeholders, and decision-makers.

Commercial & Operational Excellence

• Own design timelines, resource planning, project tracking, and review checkpoints.
• Work closely with Project Management, Procurement, and other functions to ensure smooth transition from concept to execution.
• Drive cost-conscious design solutions while maintaining quality and design intent.
• Contribute to project margins, costing, budgeting, and overall P&L outcomes.
• Improve design processes to increase pre-sales velocity without compromising execution quality.

SOPs, Training & Technology

• Establish and standardize design SOPs from concept development through execution.
• Develop best practices around materials, design trends, presentations, and client engagement.
• Leverage AI, VR, 3D visualization, and other design technologies to improve speed, accuracy, and quality.
• Drive continuous innovation in design processes and tools.

What Were Looking For

• 12+ years of experience in commercial interiors, hospitality interiors, architecture, or related design environments.
• Proven experience leading large design teams and managing high-value projects.
• Strong portfolio of commercial/hospitality projects with demonstrated design excellence.
• Excellent client-facing, communication, presentation, and storytelling skills.
• Strong understanding of materials, costing, budgeting, and project commercials.
• Experience collaborating with Sales/BD, Project Management, Procurement, and execution teams.
• Strong understanding of design processes, project timelines, and operational MIS.
• Ability to balance creativity with commercial and business objectives.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with strong ownership and P&L orientation.
• Exposure to VR, AI, 3D visualization, or technology-led design workflows will be an advantage.
