About this role
About Us We're Papertoy Studio, an early-stage game development startup working on mobile games. We're bootstrapped and pre-funding right now, building our first title with a small, hands-on team.
About the Role We're looking for a Game Developer Intern to join us in building gameplay systems and features from the ground up. This is unpaid, and we want to be completely transparent about that upfront. In exchange, we're offering real mentorship, real contribution to a shipping game, and a genuine say in how the game comes together, not busywork.
What You'll Get
- Direct mentorship from senior developers on the team
- Credit on a shipped title, plus a portfolio piece you can show future employers
- Flexible, remote working hours
- First consideration for paid roles if we secure funding during or after your internship
- A certificate of internship completion (useful for college credit, if your institution allows it)
Responsibilities
- Build and implement gameplay systems and mechanics in Unity
- Work directly with the founding team on design and technical decisions
- Debug, test, and iterate on features based on playtesting feedback
- Participate in regular team syncs and contribute ideas, not just code
Requirements
- Working knowledge of C# (Unity)
- A portfolio, personal projects, game jam entries, or coursework you can share
- Ability to work independently and communicate clearly in a remote setup
- Students or recent graduates encouraged to apply
Duration: 3 months, extendable based on fit and funding
Location: Remote
Stipend: Unpaid (see "What You'll Get" above for what we're offering instead)
