About this role
Role Overview: The main focus is AWS, APIs, data persistence, live operations, and game service reliability. Secondary experience with Unreal Engine multiplayer/dedicated servers is strongly preferred. This is primarily a backend role, not a gameplay programming role.
Main Tasks: ● Design, build, and maintain AWS backend services for player data, inventory, progression, rewards, matchmaking, authentication, and live operations. ● Work with AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Cognito, S3, CloudWatch, IAM, SQS/SNS, EventBridge, and related tools. ● Own backend data models for player inventory, stash, loadouts, rewards, economy, and match results. ● Integrate backend services with Unreal clients and dedicated servers. ● Support server-authoritative flows such as login, match start/end, extraction results, item rewards, and inventory updates. ● Build reliable APIs with clear contracts for gameplay engineers. ● Improve observability through logs, metrics, dashboards, alerts, and debugging tools. ● Help automate deployments and environment management using Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, Jenkins, or similar tools. ● Investigate and fix production/backend issues across test, staging, and live environments. ● Ensure backend systems are secure, scalable, and resistant to cheating or invalid client requests.
Skills We Need: ● 6+ years of backend engineering experience. ● Strong production experience with AWS for 3+ years.. ● Experience building APIs and cloud services. ● Strong knowledge of DynamoDB or similar NoSQL databases. ● Experience with authentication systems, preferably Cognito. ● Experience with CI/CD and deployment automation. ● Strong debugging and production support skills. ● Good understanding of security, permissions, and data integrity. ● GameLift or similar server orchestration.
Good to have: ● Backend Engineer — AWS / Unreal Integration ● Dedicated server integration. ● Understanding of client/server authority. ● Experience with inventory, matchmaking, rewards, or live-service game systems. ● Unreal Engine experience.
