The 3D FX Lead is responsible for leading the creation and delivery of high-quality visual effects for animation, film, television, gaming, and digital media projects. The role involves managing a team of FX artists, developing complex simulations, ensuring technical and artistic excellence, and collaborating with cross-functional departments to achieve project objectives.
Key Responsibilities - Lead and supervise a team of FX artists, providing technical guidance and mentoring.
- Create and oversee high-quality simulations such as:
- Fire, smoke, explosions
- Water and fluid effects
- Dust, debris, and destruction effects
- Cloth, hair, and particle systems
- Work closely with CG Supervisors, Art Directors, and Production teams to understand project requirements.
- Review FX shots and ensure they meet artistic and technical standards.
- Develop efficient workflows, tools, and pipelines to improve productivity.
- Troubleshoot simulation and rendering issues and implement solutions.
- Allocate tasks, monitor progress, and ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
- Conduct quality checks and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Collaborate with look development, lighting, compositing, and animation teams.
- Stay updated with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in VFX and simulation.
- Bachelors degree in Animation, Visual Effects, Computer Graphics, Multimedia, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in visual effects, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Expertise in software such as:
- Houdini (mandatory/preferred)
- Maya
- Unreal Engine
- Strong understanding of physics-based simulations and procedural workflows.
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of rendering pipelines and optimization techniques.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working on feature films, TV series, gaming, or commercial projects.
- Knowledge of cloud rendering and pipeline automation.
- Ability to balance artistic vision with technical constraints.
- Strong project planning and team management abilities.
