Functional Tester

Role Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Functional Tester to join our Quality Engineering team. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in functional testing, API testing, SQL database validation, and defect management.

The candidate will be responsible for validating business requirements, ensuring application functionality, testing APIs using Postman, and verifying backend data using SQL queries. Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Functional Testing

• Analyze business requirements, functional specifications, and user stories to develop effective test scenarios and test cases.
• Perform functional, smoke, sanity, regression, and end-to-end testing.
• Validate application workflows, business rules, data processing, and user interfaces.
• Identify, document, track, and retest defects to ensure quality deliverables.
• Prepare and maintain test cases, test data, and test execution reports.

API Testing

• Perform API testing to validate RESTful services, endpoints, request and response payloads, status codes, headers, and error handling.
• Use Postman to execute API requests and validate responses.
• Verify positive, negative, boundary, and data validation scenarios.
• Validate API integrations and ensure consistency between API responses and application behavior.
• Perform basic API automation using Postman collections and scripts, where applicable.

Database Testing & SQL

• Write and execute SQL queries to validate backend data and business transactions.
• Perform data integrity, data consistency, and database validation checks.
• Verify application data against database records and API responses.
• Investigate data discrepancies and support defect analysis.

Defect Management & Agile/Scrum

• Log, track, prioritize, and manage defects using Jira.
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, product owners, and other QA team members to resolve issues.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
• Provide regular updates on test progress, defect status, and quality metrics.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of testing processes and QA practices.

Mandatory Skills

• Strong hands-on experience in Functional Testing.
• Practical experience in API Testing, particularly REST API validation.
• Proficiency in Postman for API execution and validation.
• Working knowledge of SQL queries and database testing.
• Experience in defect tracking and test management using Jira.
• Good understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and software development life cycles (SDLC/STLC).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in regression, integration, smoke, sanity, and end-to-end testing.
• Familiarity with JSON, HTTP methods, status codes, and API request/response structures.
• Understanding of test planning, test estimation, and test execution reporting.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.

Education

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
