About this role
Location: Fully Remote
Contract: 2+ months, performance-based extension Hours: UK business hours
English: Strong spoken and written English required — internal communication with the team is a core part of this role About the Role: We are hiring on behalf of a UK-based software development agency with 10 years in the industry, currently serving clients in the UK manufacturing sector. You will join a small, senior team working directly with the agency lead. This is not a client-facing role. all client communication is handled internally. but you must be able to articulate technical ideas and translate business requirements into engineering solutions clearly and confidently. The client values curiosity, engineering taste, and AI-first thinking above years of experience or academic credentials. If you are the kind of engineer who experiments with AI tools, breaks down complex problems methodically, and genuinely enjoys the craft of building. this role is for you. This starts as a 2+ month contract with a strong potential to convert into a long-term engagement based on performance.
Must Have: ▸ AI-native mindset — actively experiments with and integrates AI tools into daily development workflow. This is non-negotiable. ▸ Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions — you think in problems, not just code ▸ Strong internal communication skills — able to explain complex technical ideas clearly to non-technical stakeholders ▸ Engineering taste — clean code, good architecture instincts, knows when to build and when not to ▸ Python + Django — production experience ▸ JavaScript / TypeScript — React, Node.js, Next.js production experience ▸ Fast learner with genuine curiosity — the client values this over a long CV ▸ You ask questions before writing code — understanding the business problem matters as much as the solution ▸ You have a genuine curiosity about how things work and why — not just how to implement them ▸ You push back when something doesn't make sense — the client wants collaborators, not order takers ▸ You have strong engineering taste — you care about doing things the right way, not just the fast way
Nice to Have: ▸ Manufacturing or industrial domain experience ▸ jQuery experience ▸ Experience working with or for a software development agency ▸ Familiarity with UK business culture and working styles
