About this role
We are looking for a Frontend Developer with strong, production-tested experience in both React and React Native. This is a dual-platform role — you will build and maintain web application interfaces in React and cross-platform mobile experiences in React Native, sharing logic and design systems across both. You care deeply about what users see and feel. You write clean, performant code, think in components and design systems, and you understand that a great frontend is invisible — it just works, on every device, every time. You will work closely with product designers, backend engineers, and the broader product team to ship features that matter.
The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:
React — Web:
- Build and maintain responsive, performant web application UIs using React and TypeScript — following component-driven architecture and design system standards.
- Manage application state effectively using Redux Toolkit, Zustand, React Query, or Context API — choosing the right tool for the right problem.
- Implement pixel-perfect UI from design specs (Figma) with close attention to spacing, typography, colour, and interaction states.
- Optimise web performance: code splitting, lazy loading, memoisation, bundle size reduction, and Core Web Vitals improvement.
- Write unit and integration tests using Jest and React Testing Library; maintain high coverage on critical user flows.
- Ensure cross-browser compatibility and accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA) across all web interfaces.
React Native — Mobile:
- Build and maintain cross-platform mobile applications for iOS and Android using React Native and TypeScript.
- Share business logic, hooks, and utility code across React web and React Native mobile codebases — maximising reuse without compromising platform-specific UX.
- Implement native device integrations: push notifications, deep linking, camera, biometrics, geolocation, and local storage using React Native libraries or native modules.
- Optimise mobile app performance: FlatList rendering, animation smoothness (React Native Reanimated), startup time, and memory footprint.
- Manage app releases through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store — including build configuration, code signing, and OTA updates via Expo or CodePush.
- Debug platform-specific issues on both iOS and Android using Flipper, Xcode Instruments, or Android Studio Profiler.
Design Systems and Shared Architecture:
- Build and maintain a shared component library that works across React web and React Native mobile — using tools like Storybook for documentation and visual testing.
- Define and enforce frontend coding standards, naming conventions, and folder structure across both platforms.
- Collaborate with product designers to evolve the design system — contributing to token definitions, component specs, and interaction guidelines.
- Set up and maintain frontend CI/CD pipelines — automated testing, linting, build checks, and deployment workflows for both web and mobile.
Collaboration and Quality:
- Work closely with product managers and designers to refine requirements, flag technical constraints early, and contribute to UX decisions.
- Conduct and receive thorough code reviews — focused on correctness, performance, accessibility, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with backend engineers on API contracts, GraphQL schemas, and data-fetching patterns.
- Participate in sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives — contributing to team velocity and a high-quality delivery culture.
Requirements:
- 3-5 years of frontend development experience with React in production web applications.
- Hands-on production experience with React Native for iOS and Android — you've shipped an app to the App Store or Google Play.
- Strong TypeScript proficiency across both React and React Native codebases.
- Solid understanding of React fundamentals: hooks, context, lifecycle, reconciliation, and performance optimisation patterns.
- Experience with state management libraries — Redux Toolkit, Zustand, React Query, or equivalent.
- Proficiency working from Figma designs — translating mockups into production-ready components with precision.
- Familiarity with REST APIs and GraphQL — consuming endpoints, handling loading/error states, and caching data effectively.
- Experience with Git, pull request workflows, and CI/CD pipelines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Expo — managed or bare workflow — for React Native development and OTA updates.
- Familiarity with React Native Reanimated and Gesture Handler for fluid, native-feeling animations and interactions.
- Knowledge of micro-frontend architecture or monorepo setups (Nx, Turborepo) for sharing code across web and mobile.
- Experience with Storybook for component documentation and visual regression testing.
- Understanding of app performance profiling on both iOS (Instruments) and Android (Android Studio Profiler).
- Exposure to WebSockets or real-time data rendering in a React or React Native context.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and mobile accessibility (VoiceOver, TalkBack).
Technical Skills Snapshot:
- Web: React, TypeScript, Redux Toolkit / Zustand / React Query, CSS-in-JS.
- Mobile: React Native, Expo, React Native Reanimated, Gesture Handler.
- Shared: TypeScript, shared hooks/utils, Storybook, monorepo (Nx / Turborepo).
- Testing: Jest, React Testing Library, Detox (E2E mobile), Storybook.
- Design: Figma, design tokens, component libraries, WCAG accessibility.
- DevOps: Git, GitHub Actions, Fastlane, CodePush / EAS Update, App Store / Play Store.
- APIs: REST, GraphQL (Apollo / TanStack Query), WebSocket.
Key Competencies:
- Platform empathy — you understand that web and mobile are different experiences, and you design for each without sacrificing shared code efficiency.
- Performance obsession — slow renders and janky animations are personal affronts; you profile before you optimise and measure after.
- Design fidelity — you implement what was designed, not an approximation of it.
- Collaborative instinct — you give direct, constructive feedback in code review and involve designers early, not just at handoff.
- Ownership — you follow a feature from design review through to production, and you care about what happens after it ships.
- Continuous learning — the React and React Native ecosystems move fast; you stay ahead of them.
