About this role
Stack: Qt / QML / C++ · QGroundControl · JavaScript · Qt Creator · Map & Geospatial Components (QtLocation / Mapbox / Cesium) Strongly preferred: Hands-on experience building map-centric UIs (interactive 2D/3D maps, markers, overlays, geofences, mission planning on maps). Maps are at the heart of the swarm operator workflow, so candidates who have shipped map-heavy interfaces will be prioritized.
About the Role Own the QGroundControl UI extension layer that operators use to fly and monitor the swarm. Build responsive, reliable, operator-centric interfaces for real-time UAV tracking, mission planning, and emergency control of N-UAV formations.
Key Responsibilities
- Extend and customize QGroundControl (QML + C++) to support multi-UAV swarm workflows.
- Build real-time swarm map visualization (2D/3D) with live position feeds, velocity vectors, and formation overlays.
- Implement the mission planning interface: waypoint editor, geofencing, automated route generation, and swarm-wide mission dispatch.
- Develop the health monitoring dashboard — per-UAV battery, link quality, GPS, and system state at a glance.
- Implement emergency override controls (RTL, land, loiter) — per-vehicle and swarm-wide.
- Integrate UI with backend telemetry streams over MQTT / MAVLink / TCP.
- Optimize rendering performance for high-frequency telemetry updates without UI stutter.
- Contribute to UI/UX decisions with a bias toward operator workflow over engineering convenience.
Must-Have Skills
- Strong Qt/QML experience, including custom components, models, and property bindings.
- Solid C++ skills (C++11 / 17 / 20) for QGC backend integration and custom plugins.
- Experience wiring real-time data sources (WebSockets, MQTT, MAVLink, or similar) into QML UIs.
- Strong hands-on experience with map / geospatial components — QtLocation, Mapbox, MapLibre, or equivalents — including custom map items, dynamic overlays, clustering, and performance tuning for many moving markers.
- Prior experience with QGroundControl, MAVLink, or Ardupilot/PX4 ecosystems.
Nice-to-Have
- 3D map / globe visualization (Cesium, Qt3D, OpenGL).
- Offline map tiles, custom tile servers, or GIS data (GeoJSON, KML, shapefiles).
- UI/UX sensibility for mission-critical or defense-grade interfaces.
