Front End Engineer

Role & responsibilities

Senior Front End Developer (7 9 years' experience) to build and enhance the next generation of Croma.com / Progressive Web Application (PWA). The role involves developing high-performance, scalable and responsive web experiences used by Croma customers across devices. The candidate will work closely with backend engineers, product managers, UX/UI, QA and other digital teams to deliver reliable and engaging customer journeys.

The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on expertise in front-end development, a good understanding of frontend architecture and performance, and the ability to independently take features from development through production. Responsible for defining, designing, and guiding the implementation of scalable, high-performance frontend architectures

Primary Responsibilities

1. Frontend Development

• Strong proficiency in React.js, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3 and modern JS tooling.
• Design and develop scalable, reusable and maintainable web applications using React.js and TypeScript.
• Develop customer journeys such as product discovery, search, product details, cart, checkout, account and order-related experiences.
• Experience with Redux / Context API for state management.
• Strong understanding of component lifecycle, hooks, and performance optimization.
• Develop responsive experiences across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
• Exposure to React Native, Omnichannel implementation.
• Integrate frontend applications with backend services through REST APIs and other third-party services / interfaces.
• Strong debugging, performance monitoring, and rendering optimization skills.
• Experience integrating frontend applications with CMS platforms.

2. Performance & Scalability

• Build fast and responsive web applications with a strong focus on page-load performance and user experience.
• Identify and resolve frontend performance bottlenecks including rendering, network calls, bundle size and unnecessary re-renders.
• Apply appropriate techniques such as lazy loading, code splitting, caching and optimized API consumption.
• Ensure scalability, security, accessibility, and responsive design compliance.
• Participate in architecture/design discussions and provide technical solutions.

3. Engineering Quality

• Implement test automation frameworks and ensure adequate coverage across systems.
• Write clean, maintainable and reusable code.
• Develop unit, integration and component tests and contribute to automated testing.
• Participate in code reviews and follow engineering standards.
• Champion technical debt reduction and platform modernization initiatives.
• Troubleshoot production issues and participate in RCA and remediation.

4. Cloud & DevOps

• Build, maintain CI/CD pipelines, deploy applications on AWS / Azure / GCP.
• Develop containerized applications using Docker.
• Work with Kubernetes/container platforms and cloud environments.
• Collaborate with DevOps/SRE teams on application deployment, monitoring and reliability.

5. AI-Assisted Development

• Ability to effectively use tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude or equivalent for code generation, refactoring, debugging, test creation and documentation.
• Should be able to review, validate, test and secure AI-generated code rather than relying on AI output without engineering judgement

Preferred candidate profile

• 7+ years of experience in building responsive, high-performance and scalable web apps with React.JS, exposure to developing cross-platform mobile applications using React Native.
• Experience in the Retail / Ecommerce domain is desirable.
• Preference for engineers who actively use AI-assisted coding and development tools to improve productivity.
