Freelance AI Solutions Engineer

This is a hands-on technical role sitting at the intersection of AI, software engineering, automation and enterprise systems. You will work across manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, retail, commercial and support functions to identify inefficiencies and develop scalable technology solutions that improve productivity, data visibility and operational performance.

The successful candidate should be capable of taking projects from discovery and solution design through to development, integration, testing and deployment

Role & responsibilities :

AI & Automation - You will design and implement AI-enabled applications, intelligent workflows, internal tools, automations and agentic solutions using modern AI technologies. The role may involve working with LLMs, AI agents, RAG, prompt engineering, workflow orchestration, AI APIs and automation platforms, with a strong emphasis on practical business application. Use cases may include order processing, inventory management, forecasting, warehouse operations, procurement, reporting, customer service, sales workflows and internal knowledge systems

Enterprise Systems & Integration - A strong understanding of enterprise systems is essential. You should have experience working with or integrating ERP, WMS, MRP and CRM systems, alongside databases, APIs, middleware and third-party applications. You will be expected to build and maintain integrations using REST APIs, GraphQL, webhooks, data pipelines, databases and custom code, helping reduce manual processes and improve system connectivity.

Software Engineering - Strong coding capability is essential.

Experience with Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, SQL, HTML, .NET or similar technologies is expected, alongside a good understanding of software architecture, version control, testing and deployment. Experience developing internal applications, integration layers, middleware, automation services, dashboards or APIs would be highly advantageous. Knowledge of cloud platforms, containerisation, CI/CD, authentication, secure API design and system monitoring would also be beneficial

Freelance Requirements - You must be comfortable working independently and taking ownership of assigned projects from initial brief through to deployment. You should be available to work and collaborate between 7:00am and 3:00pm GMT, allowing regular communication with the UK-based team. Strong written and spoken English is required, alongside the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You should be able to work within defined project scopes, meet agreed deadlines and provide regular progress updates throughout delivery.

Skills & Experience:

• The successful candidate will ideally have a background in software engineering, computer science, IT systems or enterprise technology. Experience within manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, distribution, FMCG or retail would be particularly valuable.
• Experience working directly with ERP, WMS, MRP, CRM, APIs, databases and automation platforms is highly desirable.
• A strong understanding of data security, access control, data integrity, system reliability and governance is also important.
