Firmware Testing Engineer

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Firmware Test Engineer with strong expertise in hardware testing, communication interfaces, and Linux-based systems. The candidate will be responsible for testing physical access controllers and readers, validating communication protocols, executing manual and automated test cases, and ensuring product reliability, performance, and quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform manual testing of physical access controllers, readers, and embedded firmware.
• Set up and configure test environments involving physical access controllers, readers, and related hardware.
• Test and validate communication interfaces such as UART, RS485, and SPI.
• Validate communication protocols and verify their implementation against technical specifications.
• Use RS485 interface tools and communication sniffing tools for debugging and protocol analysis.
• Perform Linux OS testing and validate system-level functionality.
• Create, review, and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts.
• Identify, document, track, and troubleshoot defects in collaboration with development teams.
• Develop and execute automated test scripts, preferably using Python.
• Perform regression, stress, load, performance, and system testing.
• Prepare test reports, document results, and communicate issues and findings to stakeholders.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in firmware testing, embedded systems testing, or hardware-software integration testing.
• Strong understanding of UART, RS485, and SPI communication interfaces.
• Experience with Linux OS testing and debugging.
• Good understanding of communication protocols and protocol validation.
• Hands-on experience with RS485 interface tools and communication sniffing or protocol analysis tools.
• Exposure to test automation using Python.
• Familiarity with Selenium or Playwright is preferred.
• Experience in manual testing, regression testing, stress testing, load testing, and performance testing.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and defect-tracking skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience testing embedded devices, access control systems, physical access controllers, or card readers.
• Knowledge of hardware-software integration and firmware validation.
• Experience developing automated test frameworks for embedded or hardware-based products.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience testing firmware-driven hardware devices, validating serial communication protocols, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and improving test coverage through automation.
