Firmware Engineer II (Immediate Joiner)

Position Summary

Develop, maintain, and own software used to validate digital hearing aid signal processing algorithms and embedded firmware. This role is responsible for the Python-based automation framework used for digital unit testing, regression testing, automated analysis, and milestone reporting, as well as the MATLAB-based simulation environment used to model, validate, and expand hearing aid audio processing features. Collaborate closely with firmware, algorithm, systems, and verification engineers to improve software quality, simulation accuracy, and engineering productivity.

This position is not a traditional QA/Test engineer position. It is fundamentally a software engineering role focused on audio DSP validation, simulation, and engineering productivity.

Job Responsibilities

Audio Test Automation Software Development

1. Design, develop, maintain, and enhance automated digital unit test software using Python and MATLAB.

2. Expand automated regression test coverage for hearing aid audio features.

3. Develop reusable software libraries supporting automated validation.

4. Analyze automated test failures and collaborate with firmware engineers to identify root causes.

5. Improve execution efficiency and maintainability of existing automation frameworks.

6. Develop software that generates engineering reports for major project milestones and product releases.

MATLAB Simulation Development

1. Own and maintain the MATLAB simulation framework used to model hearing aid audio processing.

2. Expand simulation support for new audio features and algorithms.

3. Implement software models that accurately represent embedded firmware behavior.

4. Validate firmware output against MATLAB reference models.

5. Collaborate with DSP algorithm engineers to ensure simulation accuracy.

6. Maintain and expand simulation software as new audio features are introduced.

Required

Bachelor's degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent from a Tier 1 or Tier 2 or well recognized university.

Master's degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering or equivalent, focusing on signal processing, or equivalent.

PhD in Signal Processing or equivalent.

Certifications:

Professional Experience

Required

Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience in engineering automation, scientific computing, simulation software, or test automation.

1. Experience developing and maintaining automated software for digital unit testing, regression testing, or engineering validation.

2. Experience working with audio signal processing, digital signal processing (DSP), or other real-time signal processing applications in commercial products.

3. Experience developing or maintaining MATLAB-based simulation software used to model, validate, or verify product behavior.

4. Experience generating automated engineering reports and metrics to support product development, quality assessment, and project milestones.

5. Experience developing reusable engineering software, libraries, or frameworks used by other engineers.

Preferred

Experience developing one or more of the following:

7. Work Schedule & Collaboration Expectations: This position requires approximately 34 hours of regular overlap with the U.S. Central Time Zone to support collaboration with firmware, algorithm, systems, and project teams.
