FinOps Engineer

Role Summary

Executes day-to-day FinOps practices — cost monitoring, tagging governance, anomaly detection, and optimization recommendations — supporting the FinOps Lead in driving cloud cost efficiency across Aon's global technology estate.

Key Responsibilities

•     Monitor cloud spend daily/weekly across AWS/Azure/GCP; investigate and flag anomalies

•     Build and maintain cost dashboards and reports (showback/chargeback) for engineering teams

•     Enforce and audit resource tagging/labeling standards for cost allocation

•     Identify rightsizing, idle-resource, and storage-tier optimization opportunities and work with engineering teams to implement them

•     Support Reserved Instance/Savings Plan/Committed Use Discount purchase recommendations and utilization tracking

•     Maintain FinOps tooling integrations and data pipelines feeding cost dashboards

•     Document cost optimization playbooks and best practices

•     Assist with monthly/quarterly cost reviews and forecast variance analysis

Required Qualifications & Experience

•     Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Finance, or a related field

•     12+ years of experience in cloud operations, DevOps, or IT financial analysis

•     FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) certification preferred

•     Working knowledge of at least one public cloud platform's billing/cost console

Technical Skills

•     Cloud cost tools: AWS Cost Explorer/CUR, Azure Cost Management, GCP Billing export/BigQuery, Cloudability/CloudHealth

•     SQL and spreadsheet-based cost analysis; BI tools (Power BI, Looker, Tableau)

•     Scripting (Python or similar) for automated reporting

•     Resource tagging governance and cost allocation frameworks

•     Basic understanding of cloud infrastructure (compute, storage, networking)
