About this role
Role & responsibilities
Own the factory floor end to end: turn confirmed orders into finished, inspected, serial-numbered recliners on time, at the agreed quality and cost. You lead the Department Supervisors (Upholstery, Wood, Foaming, Pre-Assembly, Assembly, Packing & Loading). You also own the floor rollout of our barcode-based tracking: every component is tagged, every worker step is scanned, and material is issued by lot against manufacture orders. The systems are built centrally your job is to make the floor run on them (“no scan, no count”) and to manage by the data they produce.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Planning: Convert the order book into a weekly plan and daily allocation. Release manufacture orders (MOs) after a shortage check, and plan one lot per component per MO. Escalate any order at risk 3–15 days before its committed date, with a recovery plan.
- People: Set daily targets for supervisors and run a daily floor meeting. Confirm counts and handovers after supervisor QC. Maintain the skill set and a second-in-line for every department. Handle overtime, leave and discipline with HR.
- Barcode rollout: Lead the pilot with a small WIP component, then roll out by components (Backrest Seat base Armrests Final assembly with serial linking). Run 8–10 scan stations, worker QR badges and label flow. Clear tags with no scan for 24 hours, and train every worker on scanning, rework and defect reporting.
- Quality: Run unit-level defect logging. Make sure supervisors review defect reports within 24 hours, material faults are never blamed on workers, and defects never reduce piece counts. Review defect rate by worker and step weekly. Sign off pre-dispatch inspection as per Atom Seating specifications.
- Material & stock: Material is issued by lot against MOs, and cutting is recorded as a separate step so yield is visible. Enforce foamed-ply batch rules (one worker, one shift) and make sure consumables are deducted automatically by the BOM. At final assembly, the serial is scanned first, then each component tag. Run the monthly stock count with Stores.
- Cost & productivity: Track labour time per operation from scans. Review planned vs actual cost per MO monthly. Reduce cutting waste, idle time and rework.
- Safety & upkeep: Own PPE, fire safety and 5S. Keep the floor layout clear, with WIP organised by MO and lot. Run preventive maintenance for machines, scanners and the label printer.
- Process & expansion: Validate BOM quantities, scrap % and standard times against the floor. Give input on process design decisions. Help plan layout and manpower for the Vasai shed.
Preferred candidate profile
- Experience: 6–8 years in furniture, seating, upholstery or automotive-seating manufacturing, including 3–4 years managing supervisors and 30+ workers.
- Process knowledge: Hands-on with Barcoding/Multi-level BOM, etc.
- Systems: Has run BOM- and work-order-based production. Experience with a barcode, ERP/MES or lot/serial traceability rollout is a strong differentiator.
- Skills: Production planning and line balancing, stage QC and root-cause analysis, comfort with Sheets/Excel and mobile apps. Can get semi-skilled workers to adopt new habits without losing output.
- Language & education: Fluent Hindi, working English (Marathi a plus). Diploma or B.E. in Mechanical, Production or Industrial Engineering, or furniture technology. Strong hands-on candidates without a degree will be considered.
