EV/HEV Powertrain Integration engineer (Performace)

"Accountability: Powertrain Sizing and Dimensioning

Tasks:

- Translate vehicle attribute targets (top speed, acceleration, gradeability, range, payload, duty cycle) into motor, inverter, battery, transmission and thermal system specifications.

- Build and maintain the powertrain sizing models: road load, tractive effort, motor and inverter operating envelopes, gear ratio selection and battery energy/power sizing.

- Perform trade-off and sensitivity studies (efficiency vs cost vs weight vs packaging) and produce the technical basis for architecture and sourcing decisions.

- Define, maintain and document the powertrain operating limits: continuous and peak power, current, voltage and temperature envelopes across ambient and state-of-charge conditions."                                                               

"Accountability: Powertrain delivery, System Requirements Engineering and Traceability

Tasks:

- Coordinate across all component owners and stakeholders for the delivery of the powertrain with the expected maturity at each program gate (create system level documentation like DFMEA, FTA, QC stories and support component level deliverable).

- Derive powertrain system requirements from vehicle, regulatory, safety and customer requirements and cascade them to component specifications.

- Maintain the requirement baseline, versioning and bidirectional traceability in the requirements management tool.

- Manage change impact analysis across components, suppliers and validation plans."                                                                          

"Accountability: System Integration and Interface Management

Tasks:

- Define and control the powertrain interfaces: mechanical mounting and cooling, HV and LV electrical packaging, diagnosis, etc.

- Maintain interface control documents and resolve integration conflicts between motor, inverter, battery, charger, transmission, thermal system and vehicle.

- Own the powertrain thermal integration concept: cooling architecture, flow and heat rejection budgets and thermal derating behaviour at system level.

- Support packaging, weight and cost tracking of the powertrain together with vehicle integration and mechanical design.

- Produce and maintain system specifications, architecture descriptions, integration reports and gate review packages.

- Contribute to the ISO 26262 item definition, HARA and system-level safety concept for the powertrain and verify the derived safety requirements."                                                                            

"Accountability: Vehicle and Powertrain Performance Analysis and Benchmarking

Tasks:

- Build and correlate vehicle and powertrain simulation models (MATLAB-Simulink) for performance, energy consumption and range prediction. Coordinate with the advanced simulation team for more detailed simulations if required.

- Create real-use drive cycles from field data and vehicle targets.

- Predict and verify certification and real-world cycle performance (WMTC, IDC/MIDC, WLTC and customer duty cycles) and track the range/consumption budget through the programme.

- Own the powertrain energy and loss budget: motor, inverter, battery, transmission, auxiliaries and thermal losses; drive efficiency improvement actions.

- Correlate simulation against dyno and vehicle measurement and maintain model accuracy and confidence statements.

- Benchmark competitor powertrains and technologies and feed the findings into target setting and architecture roadmaps."                                                                       

"Accountability: Powertrain System DVP Planning and Execution and Homologation

Tasks:

- Define and execute the powertrain DVP: analysis, bench, dyno, environmental, durability and vehicle-level tests with acceptance criteria linked to requirements.

- Analyse test data, judge requirement compliance, document deviations and drive design or calibration countermeasures to closure.

- Support homologation and certification activities with the required technical data, calculations and test evidence.

- Capture lessons learned and maintain reusable sizing methods, calculation templates and design guidelines."
