About this role
Role & responsibilities
- Schematic Capture & Design: Develop and architect robust electronic schematics for microcontroller platforms (STM32 and ESP32 architectures) incorporating analog/digital sensor interfaces, switched-mode power converters, and high-power motor drive circuitry.
- Component Selection & Analysis: Analyze component datasheets to select critical hardware elements (MCUs, power MOSFETs/IGBTs, gate drivers, regulators, connectors) based on strict operational voltage levels, thermal performance, and low-level peripheral compatibility.
- Multi-Layer PCB Layout: Execute multi-layer PCB designs and layouts, placing high emphasis on signal integrity (SI), power integrity (PI), high-current copper pour sizing, and proper isolation/grounding strategies.
- High-Speed & Mixed-Signal Routing: Route high-speed communication buses (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART) utilizing proper impedance matching, differential pair routing, and cross-talk isolation away from high-power switching nodes.
- EMI/EMC & Power Implementation: Implement effective board-level shielding, decoupling networks, and optimized power circuitry to minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI/EMC) stemming from high-frequency power converters and secure reliable system performance.
- Hardware Bring-up & Diagnostics: Lead initial physical board bring-up, smoke testing, and hardware debugging using bench lab equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, electronic loads, and SWD/JTAG debuggers.
- DFM & Manufacturing Prep: Prepare comprehensive production-ready documentation packages (Gerber files, drill files, BOMs, assembly drawings) and coordinate directly with PCB fabrication and assembly vendors.
- Hardware Iteration & ECAD Management: Maintain strict version control of PCB design files and hardware schematics using Git repositories, logging errata and physical edge-case failures to optimize subsequent board spins.
Preferred candidate profile
- ECAD Proficiency: Hands-on experience with schematic capture and PCB layout design tools (e.g., KiCad, EasyEDA or Altium Designer etc.) for multi-layer board development.
- Power Electronics & Converters: Strong understanding of DC-DC power converter topologies (Buck, Boost, Buck-Boost) and their control loops, including selection of inductors, switching elements, and layout optimization for power integrity.
- High-Power Motor Controllers: Experience designing and analyzing physical driver stages for brushless DC (BLDC) or DC motors, including gate driver circuits, phase current sensing architectures, and thermal management (heatsinking, thermal vias).
- PCB Design Fundamentals: Deep understanding of stack-up configuration, trace width/clearance rules for high current/voltage, copper pouring, via management (thermal, blind/buried), and high-speed routing constraints.
- Circuitry & Schematic Literacy: Strong knowledge of electronics engineering fundamentals, including analog filtering, digital logic, voltage regulation, power distribution networks (PDNs), and component ratings.
- Hardware Interfacing & Protocols: Practical experience designing physical layers for peripheral communication buses such as UART, SPI, I2C, ADC/DAC, and robust CAN communication network lines.
- Lab Equipment Mastery: Proficient in hardware troubleshooting and diagnostic toolsspecifically using oscilloscopes, differential probes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and serial logs to isolate layout or physical hardware faults.
- Microcontroller Hardware Architecture: Familiarity with the physical pinouts, peripheral mapping, and power requirements of STM32 (CubeIDE/HAL ecosystems) and ESP32 platforms.
- Hardware Version Control: Competent in using Git for managing ECAD design file revisions, schematic changes, and hardware release branches.
