About this role
Role & responsibilities
About the role
NoPo produces single-walled carbon nanotubes using the HiPCO process in high-pressure, high-temperature gas-phase reactors. As we modify our multi-tube reactor and scale up to a larger system running 24/7 on DCS, the E&I Technician will install, test, calibrate, and maintain electrical and instrumentation equipment, working to drawings issued by the engineering team.
Key responsibilities
- Assemble, wire and terminate control panels and heater power panels (SCR controllers) to approved drawings.
- Lay out, install and terminate power, signal and communication (Modbus/Ethernet) cabling.
- Install, calibrate and put into service instruments: pressure transmitters, thermocouples, mass flow controllers, gas detectors and pneumatic actuated valves.
- Carry out I/O and loop checks with the controls engineer before commissioning.
- Inspect, test, adjust and repair electrical, electronic and pneumatic instruments and systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on instrumentation, heater circuits, panels and the compressor drive (VFD).
- Diagnose and fix electrical, instrumentation and pneumatic faults quickly to minimise reactor downtime.
- Watch meters, indicators and DCS readings for abnormal trends and report them to the shift and engineering team.
- Keep work orders, calibration records and equipment history up to date.
- Follow lockout/tagout, permit-to-work and CO (toxic gas) safety procedures, and keep the work area clean and hazard-free.
Requirements
- ITI or Diploma in Electrical, Electronics or Instrumentation.
- 35 years of industrial E&I installation and maintenance experience; chemical, process or gas plants preferred.
- Able to read electrical schematics, loop diagrams and P&IDs.
- Working knowledge of DCS/PLC systems, VFDs, SCR power controllers and Modbus devices.
- Hands-on with calibration and test equipment (process calibrator, HART communicator, multimeter, insulation tester).
- Sound knowledge of electrical safety and LOTO; valid electrical/wireman licence preferred.
- Experience with a maintenance management system (CMMS) or structured maintenance records is an advantage.
- Works independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team; multi-craft skills are a plus.
- Willing to work shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays, to support 24/7 operation.
