Site Engineer Electrical (33kV Wind Power Evacuation)

Site Engineer - Electrical (33kV Wind Power Evacuation)

Location:

Karnataka (Project sites typically in Koppal, Gadag, Chitradurga, or Davanagere)

Employment Type:

Full-time / Permanent Resident Role

Core Objective:

Safely execute the construction, erection, and commissioning of internal 33kV overhead lines, underground pooling cables, and the evacuation network connecting individual Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) to the main Pooling Substation (PSS).

Key Responsibilities

Wind Farm Power Evacuation

• Wind Turbine Connections: Supervise the complete execution of 33kV internal lines and DP (Double Pole) structures from the wind turbine base to the pooling station.
• Cable Management: Oversee the laying, jointing, termination, and testing of 33kV XLPE underground cables (commonly used in modern wind farms to prevent blade clearance issues).
• Equipment Erection: Coordinate the installation and testing of WTG step-up transformers (0.69kV to 33kV) and ring main units (RMUs).

Site Execution & Quality Control

• Civil & Mechanical Interface: Conduct detailed route surveys, pole/tower pit excavations, and concreting foundation work tailored to rocky or hilly wind farm terrains.
• Line Infrastructure: Manage conductor stringing, sagging, line clearances, and the installation of surge arrestors and isolators.
• Earthing Safety: Ensure proper execution of maintenance-free chemical earthing for the 33kV line poles and turbine transformers to handle high fault currents.

Commissioning & Liaisoning

• Grid Synchronization: Work closely with the WTG commissioning teams to ensure seamless power synchronization.
• Statutory Clearances: Assist the liaisoning team in obtaining clearances from KPTCL and regional discoms (HESCOM/GESCOM) along with CEIG (Chief Electrical Inspector to the Government) approvals.
• Community Relations: Manage Right of Way (ROW) and land crop compensation issues locally by coordinating with wind farm land teams and local farmers.

Candidate Requirements

• Technical Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech) or Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• Professional Experience: 3 to 6 years in electrical infrastructure execution, with at least 2 years specifically in wind farm or solar power evacuation projects.
• Domain Expertise: Deep familiarity with wind farm internal grid architecture, pooling sub-stations, and statutory clearance workflows in Karnataka.
• Operational Competence: Proven experience managing heavy equipment operations (cranes, transit mixers) near high-voltage corridors.
• Language Proficiency: Strong communication skills with mandatory proficiency in Kannada to resolve local ROW issues with landowners and village panchayats.
• Physical Resilience: Willingness to reside at remote project sites and manage harsh field environments under high-wind conditions.
