About this role
We are hiring an experienced Electrical Estimator to join our estimation team. The role is responsible for producing accurate, defensible take-offs and cost estimates for commercial construction projects in the US and the UK, working to the relevant codes, standards and measurement conventions of each market.
Electrical Estimator / Senior Electrical Estimator Position Description: This is a full-time role for an Electrical Estimator with 5+ years of experience. You will be responsible for estimating electrical project costs, preparing detailed power, lighting and low-voltage take-offs, and supporting bid strategy for commercial projects across the US and UK markets.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Research, review and analyse construction and design documents, electrical drawings, single-line diagrams and specifications to create the most accurate possible take-off estimates.
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for electrical systems service entrance and main switchgear, switchboards, distribution boards/panelboards, transformers, MCCs, busway, feeders and sub-feeders, conduit, cable tray, trunking and containment, wire and cable, and earthing/grounding and bonding.
- Take off lighting and controls, emergency lighting, lighting protection, receptacles/sockets, power to mechanical and plumbing equipment, generators, UPS and EV charging.
- Take off low-voltage and life-safety systems — fire alarm and detection, data and structured cabling, security and access control, CCTV, nurse call and AV — against the drawings and schedules.
- Price work to both US and UK conventions, applying the correct labour units, material grades, wastage and productivity factors, and converting between imperial and metric and between currencies where required.
- Prepare detailed scopes of estimation work and the related proposal components, with clear inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, provisional sums and allowances.
- Review final estimates and blueprints diligently with a tolerance of zero error.
- Manage and review multiple projects at once, reviewing plans and specifications and coordinating with the team to confirm complete scope.
- Review equipment and fixture schedules against the drawings, and solicit and level vendor and subcontractor quotes for switchgear, lighting, generators, fire alarm and specialty systems.
- Flag scope gaps, coordination conflicts, code compliance issues and specification discrepancies, and issue RFIs or clarifications before bid submission.
- Support value engineering, alternate product selections and variation/change-order pricing. • Maintain organised estimate files, markups and backup documentation for audit and handover to project teams.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor of Engineering [BE] / Diploma in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent trade qualification).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical quantity estimating on commercial construction projects, with proven experience in both US and UK electrical estimation.
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line and riser diagrams, panel and luminaire schedules, and specifications.
- Working knowledge of US codes and standards (NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NFPA 101, UL, NECA Manual of Labor Units) and UK standards (BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations, Building Regulations Part P/Part L, BS 5839, BS 5266, CIBSE guides) and their impact on take-off and pricing.
- Familiarity with UK measurement and procurement practice — NRM2, Spon’s Mechanical & Electrical Services Price Book, BCIS data and JCT/NEC4 contract forms.
- Hands-on expertise with estimating tools such as Bluebeam Revu, PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Trimble Accubid or ConEst IntelliBid, plus the ability to swiftly adapt to new software.
- Advanced Excel skills for building and auditing estimate templates and cost databases.
- Committed to working in a fast-paced, action-oriented environment with a zero-error tolerance on final numbers.
Preferred: Experience with design-build and design-assist delivery, familiarity with BIM/Revit models for quantity extraction, exposure to conceptual and budget-level estimating, and experience estimating data centre, healthcare, or renewable/EV infrastructure projects.
