Career Area: Engineering Job Description: Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
We are seeking an experienced Electrical/Electronics Systems Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of complex electrical systems for power conversion and distribution systems in electrified platforms. This role emphasizes system architecture, PCB-level design, advanced component selection, EMI/EMC compliance, and power filter design, including LCL filters . The successful candidate will collaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver robust, compliant, and optimized systems , ensuring strong performance across electrical, thermal, electromagnetic, and packaging domains.
Key Responsibilities Define system architecture for power conversion and distribution systems, translating product requirements into subsystem and PCB-level specifications. Lead the design and development of LV/HV power conversion systems, including AC/DC, DC/DC, and inverter-based architectures. Own PCB architecture decisions such as stack-up, partitioning, grounding strategy, and creepage/clearance for high-reliability, EMI-resilient designs. Drive component selection at both system and PCB levels, including power semiconductors, magnetics, passives, and protection devices, with consideration for derating, cost, and lifecycle. Ensure EMI/EMC compliance through effective PCB design practices, filtering, shielding, and system-level noise mitigation strategies. Design, size, and integrate LCL and input/output filters for power converters, including resonance control and damping approaches. Partner with firmware, controls, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to achieve seamless end-to-end system integration. Define and execute verification and validation activities, including EMI testing, power quality evaluation, and system-level debugging. Perform simulation and analysis using SPICE and related tools to validate switching behavior, power integrity, efficiency, and overall robustness. Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards such as IEC, CISPR, UL, and CE, and deliver complete design documentation, technical reviews, and validation reports.
Technical Skills System architecture and requirements engineering LV and HV system design for batteries, power distribution, and power electronics EMI/EMC design, compliance, and mitigation techniques LCL filter design, resonance control, and filter integration Component selection, including magnetics, passives, and EMI-related components Analog and digital circuit design Power electronics fundamentals and converter topologies System-level validation, debugging, and EMI/EMC test execution Magnetics design expertise, including inductors, chokes, and filters Thermal design considerations for power electronics and filtering hardware
Tools and Software ECAD tools: Altium, OrCAD, and Cadence Simulation tools: LTSpice, PSpice, and MATLAB/Simulink EMI test equipment: spectrum analyzers, EMI receivers, and LISN setups Validation tools: oscilloscopes, CANoe, and related lab instrumentation Requirements management tools such as DOORS or Polarion are a plus Soft Skills and Teamwork Strong attention to detail and disciplined documentation practices Clear communication and effective collaboration across cross-functional teams Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to schedule Proactive problem-solving mindset with a commitment to continuous learning
Qualifications Master’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with 6+ years of relevant experience Ph.D. in Power Electronics, Automotive Electronics, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience Experience in electrification, automotive, or industrial power systems is preferred Additional information: This job required 5days working from office.
