Job Summary
We are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer with 2–5 years of experience in electrical wiring harness and cable design, preferably using Creo Parametric. The candidate will be responsible for developing 3D wiring harnesses, cable routing, electrical packaging, 2D drawings, and engineering documentation for equipment and machinery.
The role requires close coordination with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and testing teams to develop reliable and manufacturable wiring solutions.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical wiring harnesses and cable assemblies using Creo Parametric.
- Create and modify 3D wiring harness routes, cable paths, and electrical component layouts.
- Perform cable routing and harness packaging considering bend radius, clearance, accessibility, and serviceability.
- Develop 2D manufacturing drawings for wiring harnesses, cables, brackets, clamps, and related components.
- Create and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) and engineering documentation.
- Select and define appropriate wires, cables, connectors, terminals, clamps, conduits, protective sleeves, and other harness components.
- Ensure proper cable separation, routing, fastening, and protection against abrasion, heat, vibration, and mechanical interference.
- Review harness designs for manufacturability, assembly, maintenance, and serviceability.
- Incorporate design changes and engineering change requests into existing harness designs.
- Perform design verification and interference/clearance checks in 3D assemblies.
- Coordinate with mechanical design teams to ensure proper integration of harnesses with machine structures and components.
- Work with electrical engineers to understand schematics, circuit requirements, pin-outs, and electrical interfaces.
- Prepare and maintain wire lists, connector tables, cable schedules, and harness documentation.
- Support prototype development, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and design validation.
- Investigate and resolve design-related issues identified during assembly, testing, or field installation.
- Support manufacturing and production teams with technical clarification related to harness and cable installation.
- Participate in design reviews and provide engineering inputs for cost, quality, reliability, and manufacturability improvements.
- Follow company standards, engineering specifications, and applicable electrical/wiring practices.
- Maintain design data and documentation in PLM/PDM systems such as Teamcenter.
- Ensure proper revision control and release of drawings, models, BOMs, and other engineering documents.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong experience in Creo Parametric for 3D electrical harness and cable routing.
- Good understanding of wiring harness design and cable routing principles.
- Experience in creating 2D drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Knowledge of electrical connectors, terminals, wires, cables, conduits, clamps, clips, and protective coverings.
- Understanding of wire harness assembly and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and circuit drawings.
- Knowledge of BOM creation and engineering change management.
- Good understanding of GD&T, drawing standards, and basic mechanical design principles.
- Experience working with PLM/PDM systems, preferably Teamcenter.
- Knowledge of clearance, bend radius, routing constraints, and harness packaging.
- Good understanding of design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA).
Preferred Skills
- Experience in heavy machinery, construction equipment, automotive, industrial equipment, or off-highway machinery.
- Experience with Creo Cabling / Routed Systems.
- Familiarity with electrical harness standards and industry practices.
- Experience with ECAD/MCAD integration.
- Basic understanding of electrical load, voltage drop, grounding, shielding, and connector selection.
- Experience supporting prototype builds and production implementation.
- Knowledge of Teamcenter or other PLM systems.
Education
- Bachelor's degree/Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Key Competencies
