Electrical Design Engineer (Substation,Transmission Line & Hydropower)

Role & responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer with 812 years of experience in electrical design and engineering for substation, transmission line, and hydropower projects.

The candidate should have strong technical knowledge of electrical system design, engineering calculations, preparation and review of technical drawings and specifications, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with applicable international standards and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Substation Design

• Design and engineering of 66 kV400 kV GIS/AIS substations., Basic and detail engineering, Load flow, short circuit, transient, power evacuation, insulation co-ordination, power quality study.
• Preparation of SLD, Design Basis Reports, RFQ, BOQ, Technical specs for electrical equipment.
• Prepare and review of Overall SLD, AC SLD, DC SLD, protection & Control SLD, Protection philosophy, and interlocking.
• Equipment sizing and selection: Power Transformers, Circuit Breakers, CTs & PTs , Isolators, LA/Surge Arresters, Bus duct, Busbars, Capacitor Banks , Reactors
• ACDB, DCDB, Battery Charger, UPS, LT Panels, HT Panels, PCC & MCC, DG set design.
• Aux. trafo sizing, DG sizing, Busbar sizing, short-circuit calculations, and thermal checks, cable schedule preparation.
• Earthing design and calculation, lightning protection design.
• Illumination and small power system design.
• EHV, HT, LT, Cable sizing and cable routing. Cable tray and trench design.
• Preparation and review of equipment layouts and section drawings.
• Review of vendor drawings and preparation of technical comments.

Protection & Control

• Protection coordination studies, Relay setting review.
• IEC 61850-based SAS engineering., FAT/SAT participation.
• Review of protection logic and interlocking, SCADA integration.
• Knowledge of IEC 61850 , Modbus ,IEC 60870-5-104

Transmission Line Design

• Design of transmission lines from 66 kV to 400 kV, Design Basis Reports (DBR).
• Tower spotting, tower schedule, and route profile review. Sag-tension calculations
• Transmission line tower design, loading calculations using PLS-TOWER/PLS CADD.
• Foundation loading, design and review of geotechnical reports.
• Review of monopole and lattice tower designs.
• Conductor, OPGW, insulators, fittings, and hardware selection.
• Review of tower fabrication drawings and BOM.

Technical support during construction and commissioning

Hydropower Projects

• Electrical balance of plant design (GT, Bus duct, cabling, aux. system, CT/PT, CB, DS, LA, DC, LT, MCC, LCLM,DG, Earthing, FF, HVAC, CW pumps, flood and dewatering pumps, LPCAS, HPCAS)
• Generator, transformer, busbar, line protection system
• Excitation and governor interface review.
• Black-start and synchronization philosophy.
• Coordination with civil and hydro-mechanical disciplines.

Software Skills

• AutoCAD , EPLAN , ETAP /DIgSILENT /PowerFactory, PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER , STAAD Pro (basic understanding) , MS Office

Codes & Standards: Good knowledge of: IEC / IEEE Standards

Qualifications & Eligibility:

8 - 12 years of relevant experience in electrical design engineering.

Minimum 5 years of experience in Substation projects and EHV Transmission Line.

Experience in Hydropower projects BoP- Balance of plant will be an added advantage.

Experience in international projects (Africa/Middle East) is preferred.

Educational Qualification

B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering.

M.Tech in Power Systems will be an added advantage.

Strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

Excellent communication and reporting abilities.

Desired Skills

• Strong understanding of EHV transmission and substation engineering.
• Experience in basic and detailed engineering and vendor document review.
• Ability to coordinate with consultants, utilities, and EPC contractors.
• Good report writing and technical documentation skills.

Location

Pune office-As per project requirement with willingness to travel to project sites for engineering support, inspections, FATs, SATs, and commissioning activities.
