About this role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Revenue Recognition based in United States.
This role leads the global revenue accounting function within a fast-growing SaaS environment, combining technical accounting expertise with strategic business partnership. You will serve as the subject matter expert on ASC 606, shaping revenue recognition policies, controls, and scalable processes. The position offers significant ownership of NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management and related automation and integration initiatives. You will work closely with Sales, Legal, Sales Operations, and Finance to evaluate contracts and guide deal structures toward compliant revenue outcomes. As a senior finance leader, you will oversee critical month-end, quarter-end, and year-end revenue activities while strengthening reporting accuracy and controls. You will also provide insight into SaaS metrics and their relationship to GAAP revenue, helping business leaders make informed decisions. Accountabilities: Serve as the primary technical accounting authority for revenue recognition, maintaining comprehensive expertise in ASC 606 and its application within software and SaaS businesses.
Develop, document, and maintain revenue recognition policies, technical accounting memos, accounting position papers, and related guidance.
Own the configuration, optimization, and ongoing governance of NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management, ensuring revenue arrangements, plans, and schedules accurately reflect contractual terms.
Partner on revenue-related system integrations, automation initiatives, and process improvements to strengthen scalability, efficiency, and accuracy.
Collaborate with Sales, Legal, Sales Operations, and other go-to-market stakeholders to review contracts and advise on deal structures, sales plays, partner programs, and incentive arrangements.
Lead the global revenue close process, including journal entry reviews, reconciliations, deferred revenue analysis, unbilled receivables, and fluctuation analysis.
Design and implement quarter-end and year-end revenue analytics and reporting processes.
Manage external auditor relationships for revenue-related matters and coordinate responses, documentation, and supporting analyses.
Ensure internal controls across the revenue cycle are appropriately designed, documented, and operating effectively.
Provide guidance on key SaaS performance indicators such as ARR, churn, and net retention, explaining how these metrics intersect with GAAP revenue.
Translate complex technical accounting requirements into practical, scalable business processes that can be understood and implemented by non-finance stakeholders.
Support a strong control environment by completing required security and privacy training and adhering to applicable information security, privacy, access, data handling, business continuity, and incident response policies.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA certification is highly preferred.
8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 4 years within a high-growth SaaS or software environment.
Deep expertise in ASC 606 and the five-step revenue recognition model, with strong knowledge of its application to software and SaaS arrangements.
Hands-on experience managing, configuring, implementing, or auditing revenue processes within NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management (ARM) .
Strong understanding of SaaS revenue models, deferred revenue, unbilled receivables, revenue arrangements, and related accounting processes.
Experience partnering with Sales, Legal, Sales Operations, and other business teams on contract reviews, deal structures, and revenue implications.
Demonstrated ability to design and improve revenue accounting policies, controls, processes, systems, and automation.
Strong experience managing external audits and supporting effective internal control environments.
Ability to connect technical accounting requirements with operational execution and broader business objectives.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex revenue issues and develop practical solutions.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain sophisticated accounting concepts clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
Strategic, detail-oriented, and highly organized, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and continuously evolving environment.
Comfortable working cross-functionally and influencing stakeholders while maintaining strong accounting judgment, compliance, and business discipline.
