Desktop Developer

Job Description Title: Consultant - Developer Desktop Department: Enterprise Technology Services Location: Gurgaon India About the role The role would focus on shaping and supporting the local developer environments that power Fidelitys engineering teams globally You will be responsible for building managing and securing modern developer workstations improving the onboarding experience and ensuring a consistent toolchain across operating systems Your work will directly impact developer productivity standardization and engineering governance This role is critical to improving developer productivity reducing operational risk and enabling consistent engineering standards across the organisation Key Responsibilities Developer Workstation Design Management Define and maintain standardized configurations for developer desktops across Windows and macOS Manage tools installation and lifecycle using package managers such as Homebrew Winget Chocolatey etc Integrate secure development configurations proxy settings and compliance controls into desktop builds Tooling Developer Enablement Maintain and support commonly used developer tools IDEs CLI utilities SDKs version managers etc Manage developer desktop onboarding flows and integrate with existing platforms such as ServiceNow etc Ensure seamless integration with internal artifact repositories such as Nexus Artifactory and internal mirrors Modern Development Environments Research evaluate and implement containerized developer environments including: o Dev Containers eg VSCode devcontainer o GitHub Codespaces integration and governance Collaborate with platform and security teams to define usage boundaries and best practices for ephemeral workspaces Governance Observability Implement policies and controls to ensure software licensing security baselines and audit readiness Create telemetry and reporting pipelines to track desktop usage tool adoption and configuration drift Collaboration Support Act as the SPOC for developer environment support working closely with Security Desktop Engineering Platform teams and portfolio engineering teams Contribute to documentation self-service portals and internal knowledge bases Required: 46 years of experience in IT Engineering DevOps Developer Experience roles Proficient in configuring and automating workstation environments for both macOS and Windows Experience with Homebrew Winget Chocolatey and other system-level package managers Familiarity with artifact repositories Nexus Artifactory version control Git and CLI tooling Hands-on with scripting languages eg Bash PowerShell Python Understanding of developer workflows IDEs and toolchains Node Java Python etc Preferred: Exposure to GitHub Codespaces Dev Containers or similar ephemeral development environments Experience integrating with IDPs internal developer platforms or onboarding portals Prior experience working in regulated enterprise environments with software controls and governance Working knowledge of MDM tools like Jamf Intune Kandji or related solutions
