    About this role

    DESIGNER - SHEET
    METAL FABRICATION
    Company: Kanha Metal Works (KMW)
Department: Design & Engineering / Production
Designation: Mechanical Designer / CAD Design Engineer
Employment Type: Full-time | Location: KMW Workshop / Office
    Experience: 2-5 years preferred
    1. Job Purpose
KMW seeks a Mechanical Designer / CAD Design Engineer proficient in AutoCAD,
Autodesk Inventor, and SolidWorks to create accurate 2D drawings, 3D models,
assemblies, flat patterns, and manufacturing documentation for metal fabrication
    projects.
The candidate will translate customer requirements and design concepts into practical,
production-ready solutions, working with fabrication, CNC laser cutting, press brake,
welding, fitting, assembly, and quality teams. Designs must account for material
selection, bend requirements, tolerances, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
    2. Key Responsibilities
    A. CAD Design and Engineering Drawings
Prepare 2D engineering, fabrication, component, assembly, sectional, and
    general arrangement drawings using AutoCAD.
Develop 3D parts, parametric models, sheet-metal components, and assemblies
    using Autodesk Inventor and SolidWorks.
Generate manufacturing drawings with dimensions, tolerances, material
specifications, weld symbols, hole locations, and finishing instructions.
Interpret customer drawings, sketches, and technical specifications; incorporate
    approved design changes.
Check component fit, clearances, interference, alignment, and assembly
    dimensions.
    B. Sheet-Metal and Fabrication Design
Create flat patterns and unfolded drawings for CNC fiber laser cutting.
Account for material thickness, bend radius, bend allowance, bend deduction,
    springback, and press brake requirements.
Design components considering welding access, joint preparation, fasteners,
    assembly sequence, and installation requirements.
Coordinate with machine operators and fabrication teams to resolve
    manufacturing issues.
Improve manufacturability by simplifying components, standardising parts,
reducing material waste, and avoiding unnecessary operations or rework.
    C. Product Design and Development
Convert concepts, sketches, customer requirements, and functional
specifications into CAD models and technical drawings.
Support new product development, existing product modifications, prototype
development, fit checks, and design validation.
Evaluate material and design alternatives considering functionality, strength,
durability, appearance, maintenance, assembly, and cost.
Apply design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles
    where appropriate.
Incorporate production and stakeholder feedback into approved design
    improvements.
    D. Production Coordination and Quality
Clarify design issues before production and verify drawings, materials, and
    dimensions against approved requirements.
Support first-piece inspection and resolve design-related deviations.
Prepare and update bills of materials (BOMs), component lists, and
    manufacturing documentation.
Coordinate with production supervisors, fitters, welders, CNC operators, and
quality personnel to improve accuracy, efficiency, and product quality.
Ensure production teams use current, approved drawings and revisions.
    E. Documentation and Compliance
Maintain organised CAD files, model libraries, drawing registers, BOMs, technical
    records, and revision histories.
Follow KMW drawing standards, file-naming conventions, approval procedures,
    and documentation requirements.
Protect customer design information and follow applicable internal Heartfulness
    requirements for assigned projects.
    3. Qualifications and Experience
Diploma or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production
Engineering, or a related field preferred. ITI or equivalent technical qualifications
may be considered with strong CAD skills and relevant experience.
Preferably 2-5 years of experience in mechanical design, sheet-metal design, or
    metal fabrication.
Practical proficiency in AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and SolidWorks.
Ability to independently create 2D drawings, 3D models, assemblies, flat
    patterns, and manufacturing documentation.
Working knowledge of laser cutting, press brake bending, welding, fitting,
mechanical assembly, material grades, and manufacturing tolerances.
Knowledge of GD&T and experience with BOMs preferred.
Product design, prototyping, and design optimisation experience are added
    advantages.
    4. Required Skills
Strong CAD modelling, technical drawing, and dimensional accuracy skills.
Ability to convert design concepts into manufacturable solutions.
Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
Clear communication with workshop and production personnel.
Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and resolve practical
    shop-floor issues.
Disciplined revision control and responsible handling of technical information.
    5. Salary and Employment Terms
Final salary will depend on practical CAD assessments, experience, drawing quality,
independent design capability, fabrication knowledge, and product development skills.
Monthly payroll, working hours, leave, overtime where applicable, and statutory benefits
will follow agreed employment terms, company policy, and applicable Indian labour
    laws.
    6. Selection Process
    1. Screening of qualifications, experience, and CAD proficiency.
    2. Practical AutoCAD test involving a 2D fabrication drawing.
    3. 3D modelling and assembly assessment using Inventor or SolidWorks.
    4. Sheet-metal exercise covering flat patterns and bending requirements.
    5. Evaluation of drawing interpretation, dimensions, tolerances, and BOM
    preparation.
    6. Discussion of relevant design or product development work, followed by an
interview with an authorised KMW representative.
    7. Performance Expectations
    Deliver accurate, manufacturing-ready designs; maintain controlled documentation;
    coordinate effectively with production; minimise avoidable fabrication errors and rework;
and contribute to better product quality, material utilisation, and manufacturing
    efficiency.
