Design Manager -Aero Engines

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Perform stack-up analysis and design hand calculations.
• Perform conceptual and detailed design of aero engine components using conventional hand calculations.
• Develop and maintain Model-Based Definition (MBD) for aero engine components, including 3D models, Product Manufacturing Information (PMI), GD&T, and associated design requirements.
• Apply MBD practices to support model-based product definition, manufacturing, inspection, and digital engineering workflows.
• Ensure consistency and accuracy of 3D CAD models, PMI, GD&T, and engineering requirements in accordance with applicable customer and industry standards.
• Interact with customers as needed on task status from a technical standpoint, including discussions related to design, GD&T, MBD, and engineering requirements.
• Evaluate product non-conformances and provide engineering recommendations for aero engine parts.
• Support the implementation and continuous improvement of MBD processes and digital thread initiatives across design, manufacturing, and quality functions.
• Team management.

Required Skills:

• Sound knowledge in mechanical design fundamentals, engineering concepts, and applications.
• Rich experience working on aero engine parts in the areas of compressors and turbines.
• Sound understanding of the build and functionality of aero engines and sub-modules.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T application and complex tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Good understanding of Model-Based Definition (MBD), 3D PMI, model-based product definition, and digital product definition practices.
• Ability to create, interpret, and validate 3D models with embedded PMI, GD&T, dimensions, notes, and manufacturing/inspection requirements.
• Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 and other applicable MBD/GD&T standards.
• Capability to understand and interpret structural analysis results.
• Experience interacting with customers to solve critical technical problems.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

Desired Skills:

• Exposure to manufacturing processes and deviation resolutions.
• Modeling and drafting skills in any of the CAD tools, preferably Siemens NX.
• Experience with MBD/MBE workflows, PMI authoring, and digital thread concepts.
• Exposure to STEP AP242, QIF, model-based inspection, or integration of MBD data with manufacturing and CMM/inspection processes.
• Experience working with 3D annotated models and drawing-to-MBD migration.
• Highly proficient in MS Office tools.

Support better management reporting, information flow, and organizational planning. Improve operational systems and processes to support the organization's mission and enhance operational efficiency. Drive the adoption and implementation of Model-Based Definition (MBD) practices across engineering operations, including the effective use of 3D models, Product Manufacturing Information (PMI), GD&T, digital product definition, and associated engineering standards. Support the development and standardization of MBD processes to improve design-to-manufacturing collaboration, product quality, and digital thread capabilities. Manage and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of support services. Coordinate communication between engineering, manufacturing, quality, and other business functions to enable effective implementation of MBD and digital engineering processes. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 10 to 15 years of related experience, with demonstrated experience in engineering operations, MBD, 3D CAD, GD&T, and digital engineering processes.
