Design Engineer

Position Summary:

Position : Mechanical Design Engineer

Experience : 5 to 8 years

Domain : Design Engineering of Dispensing equipment for fuels (gasoline, diesel, ethanol, biodiesel, CNG, LPG, hydrogen), NPD, Fluid handling Mechanical devices.

• This position is for a mechanical design engineering role with advanced knowledge about the designing of mechanical and hydraulic fueling components and assemblies such as Nozzles, Breakaways, receptacles, and other retail fueling products. Performs product development activities including drawing creations and interpretation and implementation of customer specifications and documentation requirements.
• Performs activities relating to the design, testing, and evaluation of mechanical devices or systems.
• Provide the sustenance engineering for existing products (e.g., support for manufacturing).

Key Responsibilities:

NPD projects

• Engineering support for the product development - creates and communicates the design plans.
• Defines design requirements and mechanical specifications based on customer requirements.
• Contributes to development and documentation of mechanical system architectures.
• Participate in stage gate review process and act towards the actions.
• Designs and development of mechanical components, mechanisms, and assembly according to the objectives.
• Perform in-depth mechanical analysis and calculations including tolerance analysis, load and fatigue life analysis, and flow modeling to ensure consistent performance in safety critical applications.
• Verify and validate the design concepts through the assembly and testing performance.
• Work with Third party to develop the part machining during prototype development.
• Guide troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts related to mechanical aspects of the design and interfaces with other design constituents.
• Improves mechanical designs to optimize for production, reliability, regulatory compliance and cost.

Sustaining work

• Order execution - design supports for the existing Nozzles, breakaways, Receptacles and retail fueling underground products (Sumps, pipes, fittings) Creating the drawings, calculations and any technical support.
• Item registrations in PDM by using Team center and Oracle systems including the creation of configuration matrices, BoMs, ECRs and ECOs
• Support field service teams in troubleshooting issues with the engineering approach.

Candidate Experience and Qualification:

• Bachelors in an engineering discipline (preferably mechanical engineering)
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of:

- Product development and have production manufacturing experience.

- Fluid handling components made from cast metal (sand cast, die cast aluminum, Gravity die cast) and forging metals.

- Injection molded plastic and elastomeric parts.

- Machined aluminum, steel and plastic parts

- Fluid handling systems

• Experience in NPD and VAVE methodologies and stage gate process.
• Clear and effective communication (written and oral) and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in NX CAD system – Solid modelling, Detailing, Assembly.
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience working on cross-functional design teams.
• Knowledge of referring and applying international standards such ASME, ANSI, EN, ISO
• Nice to have product certification knowledge of regulated industry preferably pressure and flow devices.

Skills required:

The candidate should also possess the following skills, knowledge, and abilities:

• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent with 3D design software – Preferred Unigraphics and Nice to have SolidWorks.
• Self-directed, resourceful, and able to work on multiple projects and priorities.
• Strong hands-on lab skills, and prototype development skills.
• Expert knowledge of mechanical part manufacturing processes including injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, casting and precision machining.
• Expert knowledge of static and dynamic seals for high pressure applications.
• Expert knowledge on surface treatment for parts for high wear and close tolerance parts
• Strong knowledge of design processes including DFM and DFA.
• Expert knowledge of engineering drawing practices supported by a strong understanding of GD&T.
• Nice to have the knowledge and experience in a FEA and CFD.
