About this role
Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced DB2 z/OS Database Administrator with 6+ years of hands-on experience in DB2 database administration and DB2 application DBA activities. The candidate will be responsible for database availability, performance, maintenance, backup/recovery, troubleshooting, and supporting DB2 z/OS projects and production environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and support DB2 z/OS databases and tables across multiple environments.
- Monitor and analyse database space utilization, performance, and overall health.
- Perform DB2 utilities including LOAD, UNLOAD, IMAGE COPY, REORG, and related maintenance activities.
- Analyse table spaces and databases for space management and performance optimization.
- Write and execute SQL queries, including DDL and DML operations.
- Perform database refreshes between systems/environments.
- Manage weekly database maintenance, including backup and recovery activities.
- Ensure 24x7 availability of databases and tables and respond to incidents and user requests.
- Handle Service Now tickets, change requests, and production support activities.
- Troubleshoot database issues and perform performance tuning and root-cause analysis.
- Support small database infrastructure projects and assist global teams with DB2 initiatives.
- Work closely with business, application, and IT teams to gather, analyse, and document database requirements.
- Follow Agile methodologies and established change-management processes.
Required Skills Knowledge:
- 6+ years of hands-on experience in DB2 z/OS Database Administration.
- Strong experience in DB2 Database Management / Application DBA activities.
- Medium to advanced knowledge of JCL and VSAM.
- Strong understanding of DB2 utilities, SQL, DDL, DML, backup/recovery, and database maintenance.
- Experience with database space management, performance analysis, and tuning.
- Experience handling production incidents, user requests, and database refresh activities.
- Familiarity with Service Now and change-management processes.
- Good analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
- Understanding of Agile methodology.
Good to Have:
- Exposure to IMS Database Administration (IMS DBA).
- Knowledge of SAS or REXX for automation.
- Experience in DB2 automation and scripting.
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise/mainframe database environments.
- Knowledge of high-availability and disaster-recovery practices.
