About the Role: We're looking for a skilled Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of our PostgreSQL and cloud-based database environments on AWS. You'll optimize database operations and drive long-term reliability engineering initiatives.

What You'll Do

• Support high availability and reliability across PostgreSQL on AWS RDS/Aurora
• Validate backup and recovery plans to meet RPO/RTO objectives
• Maintain database security via AWS IAM, parameter groups, and encryption standards
• Monitor workloads, query performance, and system health
• Diagnose database issues at SQL and engine layers in collaboration with developers
• Perform performance tuning using EXPLAIN/EXPLAIN ANALYZE and monitoring tools
• Participate in the Database On-Call Rotation
• Identify automation opportunities through scripting and observability tooling
• Mentor team members and contribute to documentation and process improvement
• Expand expertise across additional DBMS platforms over time (MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, Redshift, DynamoDB, Snowflake, etc.)

Must-Have Skills

• 6+ years of PostgreSQL Administration in production environments
• Strong experience with AWS RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL
• Strong SQL and PL/pgSQL skills
• Backup/recovery strategies and HA/DR concepts
• AWS security practices (IAM, KMS, encryption)
• Performance tuning and query optimization
• Scripting for automation (Python/Bash)
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with other AWS DBMS (MySQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, Redshift, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, MemoryDB, Neptune, Snowflake)
• Linux OS and shell scripting
• Data warehousing / OLTP-OLAP patterns
• Observability tools (pgBadger, Performance Insights)
• CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK)
• AWS RDS Certified Professional
• Agile/DevOps/SRE practices

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience
• 6+ years of PostgreSQL DBA/DBRE experience in 24×7 production environments
