Job Description – PostgreSQL Database Developer
Experience Required 4–6 Years
Job Summary We are looking for a skilled PostgreSQL Database Developer with strong experience in query writing, stored procedures, query optimization, and database performance tuning. The candidate should have good experience of working with complex SQL queries and supporting application/business requirements in production environments. The ideal candidate should also have exposure to PostgreSQL DBA activities and should be willing to learn and contribute towards database administration tasks such as monitoring, backups, and performance troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize complex SQL queries in PostgreSQL.
- Write and maintain stored procedures, functions, triggers, and database scripts using PL/pgSQL.
- Analyse and improve slow-performing queries using EXPLAIN ANALYZE and indexing strategies.
- Work closely with backend/application teams for database integrations and production issue troubleshooting.
- Perform data analysis, debugging, and root cause analysis for production incidents.
- Design efficient database structures and ensure data consistency and integrity.
- Monitor database performance and suggest optimization improvements.
- Support deployment of DB scripts, schema changes, and data migration activities.
Basic DBA Exposure / Learning Responsibilities
- Basic understanding of PostgreSQL backup and restore processes.
- Exposure to database monitoring, locks, deadlocks, and active session analysis.
- Willingness to learn and support PostgreSQL DBA activities such as replication, maintenance, and performance monitoring.
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL.
- Strong SQL query writing and optimization skills.
- Experience with stored procedures, functions, triggers, and PL/pgSQL.
- Good understanding of joins, subqueries, CTEs, indexing, and query execution plans.
- Experience using EXPLAIN ANALYZE for query tuning.
- Understanding of transactions, locking, and database performance concepts.
- Experience in handling production database issues and debugging.
- Familiarity with pg_stat_activity and PostgreSQL monitoring concepts.
Good to Have
- Exposure to PostgreSQL replication and backup strategies.
- Experience with partitioning and performance tuning.
- Knowledge of Linux commands and shell scripting.
- Experience working in fintech/payment domain.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication and coordination abilities.
- Ability to work independently in production support/development environments.
- Willingness to learn and take ownership of database performance and stability initiatives.
