Database Administrator

Job Summary

The AWS Database Administrator will manage and optimize MS SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL databases hosted in AWS environments such as Amazon RDS, Amazon EC2, and Amazon Aurora. This role requires expertise in database performance tuning, security, and cloud-based best practices. The Database Administrator will collaborate closely with architects, developers, system administrators, and DevOps teams to ensure efficient database integration with business applications.

Responsibilities

• Database Assessment and Documentation
• Perform comprehensive assessments of existing on-premises databases.
• Document schemas, stored procedures, and dependencies.
• Migration Strategy and Execution
• Develop migration strategies by selecting suitable AWS database services (eg, Amazon RDS, Aurora, Redshift, or EC2-hosted databases) based on business and technical requirements.
• Use AWS tools such as Database Migration Service (DMS), Schema Conversion Tool (SCT), and native database utilities for schema conversion, bulk loads, and ongoing replication.
• Lead and execute the migration process, including initial data transfer, change data capture, monitoring, troubleshooting, and cut-over activities.
• Cloud Architecture and Security
• Design and set up network architecture (VPC, subnets, security groups).
• Configure IAM roles for secure cloud integration.
• Post-Migration Optimization and Validation
• Coordinate functional and data validation post-migration, working with application, analytics, and QA teams to ensure accuracy and performance.
• Optimize and tune migrated databases for AWS, enabling monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and compliance controls post-migration.
• Documentation and Training
• Create detailed project documentation.
• Train internal teams for operational handover.

Required Skills

• Database Management and Administration
• 3+ years of experience managing and administering databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server).
• AWS Expertise
• Practical knowledge of AWS database services and migration tools (DMS, SCT).
• Prior involvement in end-to-end on-premises to cloud migration projects.
• Technical Proficiency
• Strong SQL, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.
• Understanding of data security, compliance, and backup in cloud environments.
• Soft Skills
• Excellent communication, project management, and teamwork abilities.

Qualifications

• AWS Certification (eg, AWS Database - Specialty or Solutions Architect).
• Familiarity with cloud automation tools such as CloudFormation or Terraform.
• Scripting experience with Python or Bash.
• Experience with large-scale enterprise data migrations and hybrid environments.
