Position: IBM DataPower / API Connect (APIC) Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced IBM DataPower / API Connect (APIC) Engineer to design, develop, secure, deploy, and support enterprise API solutions. The ideal candidate should possess strong hands-on expertise in IBM DataPower Gateway and IBM API Connect (APIC), with exposure to Apigee being an added advantage. The role involves API lifecycle management, gateway configuration, security implementation, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and integration with enterprise applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, publish, and manage enterprise APIs using IBM API Connect (APIC).
• Configure and maintain IBM DataPower Gateway services including MPGW, WSP, AAA policies, routing, transformations, error handling, logging, and troubleshooting.
• Develop and support RESTful and SOAP-based APIs using OpenAPI/Swagger, WSDL, XML, JSON, XSLT, XPath, and GatewayScript.
• Implement API security standards including OAuth 2.0, JWT, API Keys, Mutual TLS (mTLS), SAML, SSL/TLS, and certificate management.
• Configure DataPower processing policies, Crypto Profiles, SSL certificates, authentication, and authorization mechanisms.
• Manage APIC components such as API Manager, Developer Portal, Analytics, Products, Plans, Catalogs, Spaces, and DataPower Gateway.
• Design and implement API traffic management policies including throttling, rate limiting, quotas, routing, and security enforcement.
• Integrate APIs with enterprise backend systems using REST, SOAP, HTTP/S, MQ, and other integration protocols.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to API connectivity, certificates, security policies, DataPower configurations, and backend integrations.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and API deployment automation using Git, Jenkins, Ansible, or similar tools.
• Ensure adherence to API governance standards, versioning strategies, monitoring, logging, and operational best practices.
• Collaborate with architecture, security, infrastructure, network, application development, and operations teams to deliver scalable API solutions.

Mandatory Skills (Must Have)

IBM DataPower Gateway

• Strong hands-on experience with IBM DataPower Gateway.
• Expertise in MPGW, WSP, AAA policies, routing, transformations, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with Crypto Profiles, certificate management, SSL/TLS, and security configurations.
• Strong knowledge of API gateway administration and support.

IBM API Connect (APIC)

• Strong hands-on experience with IBM API Connect (APIC).
• Experience designing, developing, publishing, securing, and managing APIs throughout their lifecycle.
• Experience with API Manager, Developer Portal, Analytics, Products, Plans, Catalogs, Spaces, and DataPower Gateway integration.
• Knowledge of API governance, versioning, and reusable policy implementation.

API Development & Security

• Experience working with REST and SOAP APIs.
• Expertise in OpenAPI/Swagger, WSDL, XML, JSON, XSLT, XPath, and GatewayScript.
• Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0, JWT, API Keys, mTLS, SAML, and certificate-based security.
• Experience implementing API authentication, authorization, and security controls.

Integration & DevOps

• Experience integrating APIs with enterprise systems via REST, SOAP, HTTP/S, MQ, and related protocols.
• Knowledge of Git, Jenkins, Ansible, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation.
• Strong troubleshooting and production support experience.

Preferred Skills (Good to Have)

Apigee

• Hands-on experience or working knowledge of Apigee Edge, Apigee X, or Apigee Hybrid.
• Experience creating and managing:
• API Proxies
• Products
• Shared Flows
• Target Endpoints
• Proxy Endpoints
• Reusable Policies

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline.
• IBM API Connect and/or DataPower certifications are highly desirable.
• Experience working in large-scale enterprise integration and API management environments.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
