Data Platforms Lead Engineer (SAC-Planning) - BI & Reporting

Overview

Waters is seeking an experienced Lead / SAC-P Developer to lead the design, development, and governance of enterprise planning solutions within SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC). This role will be responsible for driving end-to-end SAC Planning implementations, mentoring junior developers, and partnering with business stakeholders to deliver scalable, high-quality planning and reporting capabilities.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• SAC Planning Architecture & Model Leadership- Must Have
• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of SAC planning models aligned with enterprise requirements
• Define and govern hierarchies, dimensions, and measures across planning use cases
• Establish and manage versioning strategies (Actuals, Forecast, Budget)
• Ensure scalability, standardization, and adherence to best practices
• Define enterprise-wide SAC Planning design standards, development frameworks, and reusable solution patterns.
• Lead model optimization initiatives to improve planning performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Design cross-functional planning solutions spanning Financial, Workforce, Sales, and Operational Planning.
• Conduct architecture reviews and ensure alignment with enterprise data, security, and analytics standards.
• Evaluate and recommend new SAC Planning capabilities and roadmap features for adoption.
• Development & Delivery of SAC Components- Must Have
• Oversee and contribute to development of SAC Stories and input templates
• Lead design and build of visualization dashboards and analytical reports
• Drive backend and UI enhancements for global reporting solutions
• Ensure high performance and usability across SAC deliverables
• Lead development of SAC Analytic Applications using scripting and advanced user interaction capabilities.
• Design and implement planning workflows using SAC Calendar, Task Chains, and Process Management features.
• Establish development standards, coding guidelines, and peer review processes for SAC deliverables.
• Create reusable templates, widgets, and reporting components to accelerate solution delivery.
• Ensure accessibility, usability, and responsive design standards across all planning applications.
• Expertise in SAC Analytic Applications and JavaScript scripting .
• Strong experience with Advanced Formulas, Data Actions, Multi Actions, and Calendar Processes .
• Advanced Calculations & Data Actions- Must Have
• Design and implement complex calculation logic within SAC models
• Lead development of Data Actions to automate planning processes
• Optimize performance and ensure accuracy across planning scenarios
• Establish development standards and conduct quality reviews
• Design and optimize Advanced Formula scripts for complex planning, allocation, and forecasting requirements.
• Develop Multi Actions to automate end-to-end planning and approval processes.
• Build driver-based planning, top-down and bottom-up forecasting models.
• Implement allocations, currency conversion, intercompany eliminations, and spreading logic.
• Conduct performance tuning of Data Actions, calculations, and planning models to minimize processing time.
• Global Reporting & Enhancements- Must Have
• Manage and deliver global SAC report enhancements and changes
• Coordinate backend data model changes and UI updates
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable solutions
• Drive continuous improvement across planning and reporting processes
• Lead planning and execution of global reporting releases and enhancement roadmaps.
• Standardize KPI definitions, calculations, and reporting frameworks across business functions.
• Drive self-service reporting capabilities and user adoption initiatives.
• Perform impact assessments for enhancement requests and define scalable implementation approaches.
• Ensure reporting consistency across regions, business units, and planning cycles.
• Data Integration & Ecosystem Alignment– Good to Have
• Architect and oversee data integration from source systems using APIs and flat-file uploads
• Ensure data consistency, integrity, and governance across SAC environments
• Collaborate with upstream systems and integration teams to resolve issues
• Align SAC solutions with Waters enterprise data and analytics strategy
• Design integration architectures between SAC and SAP Datasphere, BW/4HANA, S/4HANA, and non-SAP systems.
• Lead data mapping, transformation, and validation activities across source systems.
• Define data quality controls, reconciliation processes, and governance standards.
• Support integration troubleshooting and performance optimization activities.
• Collaborate with enterprise data architects to align planning models with the organization's data strategy.
• Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement– Good to Have
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development teams
• Act as the primary point of contact for SAC Planning initiatives
• Partner with global stakeholders across IT, Finance, and Operations
• Lead solution discovery workshops and planning requirement gathering sessions with business stakeholders.
• Mentor and coach developers on SAC Planning best practices, advanced scripting, and solution design.
• Review technical designs, code, and deliverables to ensure quality and consistency.
• Drive estimation, sprint planning, release planning, and delivery governance activities.
• Act as escalation point for complex technical and functional issues across planning workstreams.
• Manage interactions with SAP product support for complex incidents and product enhancement requests.
  
  

Required Skills & Qualifications Must Have

• Extensive hands-on experience with SAP Analytics Cloud (Planning)
• Strong expertise in planning model design, hierarchies, and dimensions
• Proven experience in SAC Story development, dashboards, and reporting
• Advanced knowledge of Data Actions, calculations, and scripting in SAC
• Experience with data integration (APIs, flat files, ETL processes)
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to deliver in a global, cross-functional environment
  
  

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications– Good to Have

• Experience in enterprise-wide planning and global reporting implementations
• Familiarity with SAP ecosystem (S/4HANA, BW, Datasphere, etc.)
• Exposure to financial and operational planning processes
• SAC Planning certification preferred
• Experience managing onshore/offshore delivery models
• Expertise in SAC Analytic Applications and JavaScript scripting .
• Strong experience with Advanced Formulas, Data Actions, Multi Actions, and Calendar Processes .
• Experience integrating SAC with SAP Datasphere, BW/4HANA, S/4HANA, SAP BPC, and SAP Integration Suite .
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum delivery methodologies .
• Experience with planning architecture, forecasting methodologies, and financial modeling .
• Familiarity with transport management, release governance, and DevOps practices for SAC .
• Experience in global FP&A, Sales Planning, Workforce Planning, and Supply Chain Planning solutions .
