Job Description: Data Modeler Master Data Management (MDM)

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Data Modeler with strong SAP/ERP domain knowledge and functional business understanding to join our Master Data Management (MDM) practice.

The role involves translating business and functional requirements into structured, scalable data models, primarily using data sourced from SAP and Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365). You will work closely with data architects and internal technical teams to understand source-system structures, perform data mapping and exploratory data analysis (EDA), identify data quality issues, and support ETL pipeline design.

The ideal candidate will have a background in Business Analysis and hands-on Data Modeling, along with practical knowledge of SAP functional modules such as FICO, MM, or SD and a strong understanding of Finance, Sales, or Revenue Growth Management (RGM) processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with data architects to understand business requirements, functional processes, and source-system configurations.
• Translate functional requirements into logical and physical data models aligned with business and MDM requirements.
• Analyze SAP and D365 source data, including relevant tables, relationships, master data, and transactional data structures.
• Perform data mapping and exploratory data analysis (EDA) to understand source data, validate assumptions, and identify gaps.
• Identify, investigate, and resolve common ERP data quality issues, including duplicates, missing values, inconsistent master data, and data integrity issues.
• Design and maintain data models for business domains such as Finance, Sales, Materials Management, and Revenue Growth Management.
• Support ETL pipeline design and development by defining source-to-target mappings, transformation rules, data validation logic, and reconciliation requirements.
• Work with architects and data engineering teams to refine ambiguous requirements and ensure the data models accurately represent business processes.
• Document data definitions, business rules, relationships, transformation logic, and modeling decisions.
• Support data integration and master data standardization initiatives across ERP systems.

Required Skills and Experience

• 68 years of overall experience, including hands-on experience in data modeling and business analysis.
• Proven experience designing data models based on business requirements and source-system data.
• Direct exposure to SAP or similar ERP platforms, with the ability to explain specific module-related tables, data structures, relationships, and common data quality challenges.
• Strong functional knowledge in at least one of the following areas:
  
• SAP FICO: Financial accounting, general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and controlling.
• SAP MM: Procurement, purchasing, material master, inventory management, and goods movements.
• SAP SD: Sales orders, deliveries, billing, customer master, and sales transactions.
• RGM / Sales / Finance: Revenue, pricing, promotions, sales operations, financial processes, or related business workflows.
• Experience translating business and functional requirements into conceptual, logical, or physical data models.
• Practical experience with data mapping, source-to-target analysis, EDA, and data quality validation.
• Exposure to ETL processes, data transformation, data integration, and reconciliation.
• Previous experience as a Senior Business Analyst, Functional Analyst, or Data Analyst with demonstrable hands-on data modeling responsibilities.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Good to Have

• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) or exposure to multiple ERP systems.
• Experience across multiple SAP functional modules or business domains.
• Exposure to Azure or other cloud-based data platforms.
• Familiarity with SQL, data profiling, data engineering, and ETL tools.
• Experience in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry.
• Exposure to Master Data Management (MDM), data governance, and data standardization initiatives.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate combines functional business knowledge with practical data modeling expertise. They should understand how SAP or ERP data represents real business processes and be able to convert that understanding into reliable data models and source-to-target mappings.

Candidates whose experience is limited to SAP end-user activities, reporting, or technical data extraction without functional understanding and hands-on data modeling are unlikely to be suitable.

Primary evaluation priorities:

1. SAP/ERP domain knowledge and functional understanding.
2. Hands-on data modeling experience.
3. Strong grounding in Finance, Sales, or RGM.
4. Data mapping, EDA, ETL, and data quality experience.
5. Ability to collaborate with architects in an internal, non-client-facing role.

Note: CPG experience and cloud/data engineering exposure are advantageous but not mandatory. Strong functional grounding and data modeling capability are the primary selection criteria.
