Data Engineer

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a highly skilled AWS Cloud Migration Engineer to join one of our leading financial services client to support a high-visibility, enterprise-scale cloud migration initiative. This role will focus on migrating workloads from on-premises infrastructure to AWS while driving application planning, platform configuration, migration execution, validation, performance tuning, automation, and legacy system decommissioning. The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on engineering experience, a structured delivery mindset, and the ability to collaborate effectively across application, infrastructure, and platform teams to execute migrations safely and at scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess on-premises environments and perform discovery across business processes, CPU, memory, storage, dependencies, and runtime patterns to determine migration readiness.
• Analyse workloads based on functionality, business criticality, resilience requirements, and interruption tolerance to determine appropriate cloud compute placement.
• Plan and provision required cloud infrastructure capacity to support migration, testing, and production execution.
• Execute UAT and production parallel testing, compare outcomes, capture evidence, and troubleshoot discrepancies through to resolution.
• Perform performance tuning and optimisation to ensure migrated workloads meet stability, scalability, efficiency, and production-readiness standards.
• Partner with application engineering, infrastructure, and platform teams to finalise migration plans, release approvals, validation criteria, and rollback considerations.
• Manage release readiness activities, execute production deployments, and complete post-release validation and transition procedures.
• Support legacy on-premises system decommissioning following successful migration and validation activities.
• Design and implement automation frameworks and AI-assisted solutions to enable repeatable, efficient cloud migration processes.

Document migration procedures, lessons learned, risks, and best practices to continuously improve the migration factory operating model.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience
• Strong AWS experience (EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, CloudWatch)
• Proven experience with on-premises to AWS cloud migrations
• Strong Python and/or Java development experience
• Linux/Unix administration and troubleshooting experience
• Experience building automation scripts and frameworks
• REST API and API integration experience
• CI/CD pipeline experience (GitLab, Jenkins, Maven or similar)
• Experience with Kubernetes-based deployments
• Batch scheduling/orchestration experience (AutoSys, Control-M, Cron or similar)
• Monitoring and observability experience (CloudWatch, Splunk or similar)
• Performance tuning and optimisation of production workloads
• Experience executing migration testing, cutovers, and post-migration validation
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills

Excellent stakeholder communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
