Costing Engineer

Role & responsibilities

• Study 2D / 3D casting/machining drawings and RFQs; identify material, finished dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, surface finish and critical features.

• Develop operation-wise process routes covering turning, milling, drilling, boring, tapping, grinding and other applicable operations.

• Determine machine selection, setup sequence, work holding requirements and cycle time for each operation.

• Calculate machining cost including machine-hour rate, setup time, cycle time, labor, tooling, consumables, inspection and overheads.

• Estimate cutting-tool consumption, tool life, fixtures/work holding, gauges and special tooling where applicable.

• Consider casting allowance, machining allowance, datum strategy, clamping and casting variability in costing.

• Prepare component-wise machining should-cost, compare supplier quotations and identify major cost drivers / cost-reduction opportunities.

• Coordinate with Foundry, Methodology, Production, Tool Room, Quality, Purchase and Commercial teams.

Required Technical Skills

• Machining process knowledge CNC Turning, VMC, HMC and conventional machining.

• Process planning, operation sequencing, setup planning and machining cycle-time calculation.

• Knowledge of cutting parameters, tooling, tool life, fixtures, gauges and consumables.

• Ability to interpret 2D drawings, GD&T, tolerances, surface finish and machining allowances.

• RFQ estimation / should-cost modelling and strong MS Excel skills.
