Costing Engineer

Role Description The Costing Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Kolkata. This position is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for electrical and automation projects, including materials, labor, subcontracting, and overheads. Day-to-day tasks include analyzing project drawings and specifications, reviewing client requirements, obtaining and evaluating vendor and contractor quotations, and developing accurate Bill of Quantities (BOQs). The role also involves coordinating with design, procurement, and project teams to validate cost assumptions, updating costing databases, and supporting bid preparation and pricing strategies. The Costing Engineer contributes to cost optimization, risk assessment, and margin analysis to ensure competitive and profitable proposals.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in electrical or instrumentation engineering, with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and project specifications.
• Experience in project costing or estimation for electrical and automation systems, including familiarity with BOQs, rate analysis, and cost breakdowns.
• Proficiency with MS Excel and other office productivity tools; exposure to ERP or project management software is beneficial.
• Solid analytical and numerical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in calculations and documentation.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with design, sales, procurement, and project execution teams.
• Ability to manage multiple proposals and deadlines, prioritize tasks, and maintain organized records of costing data and vendor quotes.
• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical field; relevant industry experience in industrial electrical or automation projects is an advantage.
• Knowledge of industrial standards, common electrical and automation equipment, and basic contracting/commercial terms will be considered a plus.
