Control Room Operator, Ferro Alloys

Role & responsibilities

Monitor furnace electrical parameters such as load (MW), voltage, current, and power factor through SCADA/DCS. 

• Maintain balanced electrode current across the three electrodes and ensure stable furnace resistance. 
• Control electrode slipping and monitor electrode penetration, consumption rate, and Sderberg electrode baking conditions.

 • Adjust transformer tap positions to maintain proper furnace power input and stable operation. 

• Monitor raw material charging sequence including chrome ore, reductants (coke/coal), and fluxes to maintain proper burden distribution. Cross check of the weigh hoppers & the day bins. Calibration of weigh hoppers in coordination with the Instrumentation team.
• Continuously monitor key process parameters such as furnace resistance, off-gas temperature, cooling water flow/temperature, and furnace pressure. 
• Identify abnormal furnace conditions such as hanging burden, self-slips, channelling, or crust formation and take corrective actions. 

Safety & Compliance

 • Monitor safety alarms including cooling water failure, transformer trips, gas pressure rise, and electrode holder overheating.

 • Ensure emergency interlocks and protection systems are functioning properly for safe furnace operation.

 • Maintain coordination with the Gas Cleaning System to ensure proper off-gas handling and compliance with emission norms. 

• Maintain a record for safety equipment distribution.

 • Maintain detailed shift logbooks including furnace parameters, operational changes, safety records, process deviations & the communication records.

 • Record and track power consumption, electrode consumption, production data, and operational observations.

 • Receive product quality reports from the Quality Control/Laboratory department and monitor the quality of ferrochrome produced. 

• Report any deviation in product quality immediately to the Shift In-Charge or Furnace Manager for corrective action. 

Preferred candidate profile

Candidates with relevant experience in the Ferro Alloys Industry will be preferred.
