Job Purpose

The Consultant in Transfusion Medicine will oversee the clinical, technical, and administrative operations of the
Blood Bank and Immunohematology laboratory. This role ensures the provisioning of safe,
high-quality blood components, the resolution of complex serological anomalies, and direct clinical consultation
for advanced patient care, including apheresis and massive transfusion protocols.

Key Responsibilities Duties

? Clinical Consultation: Provide expert medical advice to clinical specialties on appropriate blood component
utilization, massive transfusion protocols (MTP), hemovigilance, and management of refractory patients.

? Immunohematology Laboratory Supervision: Oversee complex serological workups, including antibody
identification, resolving ABO/Rh discrepancies, evaluating autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA), and
managing hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN).

? Apheresis Specialized Procedures: Manage therapeutic apheresis procedures (plasma exchange,
cytapheresis) and stem cell/bone marrow collection and processing if applicable.

? Quality Assurance Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with national regulatory bodies (e.g.,
DCGI/CDSCO, NABH, NABL). Implement and monitor robust
Quality Control (QC) frameworks across all testing platforms.

? Transfusion Reaction Investigations: Lead medical investigations into adverse transfusion reactions,
ensuring timely analysis, reporting, and implementation of safety interventions.

? Donor Management: Supervise donor selection, screening, blood collection drives, and the mitigation of
donor adverse events to maintain an adequate and safe blood supply.

? Academic Training Initiatives: Teach and mentor fellows, and
technical laboratory staff. Drive clinical research and regular audits within the department.

Required Qualifications Experience

? Education: MBBS+MD / DNB in
Transfusion Medicine or MD in Immunohematology Blood Transfusion.

? Experience: 0 to 5 years?

? Licensure: Valid State Medical registration
